After winning the 2024 World Series, there were some questions on how the Los Angeles Dodgers would line up in the 2025 season. This was because some of their stars were becoming free agents. They are now reported to be getting closer to re-signing one of them, Teoscar Hernandez.
The Dominican international had a standout year with the team after joining them on a one-year deal. The outfielder was one of the power hitters in the 2024 season and played an important part in their postseason triumph.
The Dodgers did extend a qualifying offer for Hernandez. He would though reject that and become a free agent. Before that in the Dodgers’ victory parade, he was left in tears following the support of the fans and claimed that he would do “anything in power” to re-sign with them.
Now reports are emerging that the Los Angeles-based franchise is working on this deal at the moment. As per Dodgers insider David Vassegh, the two parties are looking to “nail” the final details of the contract.

Recently, the Dodgers made two big moves in the offseason. First, they signed two-time Cy Young Award Blake Snell on a massive 5-year, $182 deal. A few days later, they extended the contract of the contract of NLCS MVP Tommy Edman to a five-year deal.
Both Snell and Edman have deferrals in their contracts. There are thus chances that a deal of Hernandez could include some deferred money again.
LA Dodgers reportedly unlikely to sign Juan Soto in free agency
While the Los Angeles Dodgers are closing in on one Dominican star, they are seemingly out of the race for another one. As reports of the team getting closer to re-signing Teoscar Hernandez emerged, there are also reports that they are ‘unlikely’ to sign Juan Soto.
As per MLB insider Mark Feinsand, the race for Soto has come down between four teams. They are the New York Yankees, the New York Mets, the Toronto Blue Jays, and the Boston Red Sox. These four teams along with the Dodgers were the ones who submitted an offer for him.
This also comes at a time when Scott Boras, Soto’s agent claimed that the four-time All-Star has started eliminating teams from the free agency contention. There are reports that he could announce his decision by the end of this week, before the start of the Winter Meetings.
Dodgers were just bidding up the price… like that guy in your fantasy football auction draft that doesn’t need a player but drives up the price to screw everyone else

Reports also claim that the bidding for Soto has surpassed the $600 million mark. It now remains to be seen which team he chooses and whether his contract will eclipse the one Shohei Ohtani signed with the Dodgers in 2023
