Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani made waves in the sports world following his enormous $700 million 10-year signing with the team. His signing became one of the biggest contracts in MLB history and was widely celebrated by Dodgers fans. 

In a recent video on X, team manager Dave Roberts along with other players talked about their experience when they first learned of Ohtani signing with the team. Roberts mentioned that his son broke the news to him during their vacation time at Manhattan beach and “I wanted to jump right in!” to see him in Dodgers blue uniform.

Mookie Betts said he was on a golf course when someone yelled at him and congratulated him on the new team joinee. He admitted “I had no idea what he was talking about” but soon his phone “started blowing up” with text messages and congratulations. Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Gavin Lux commented,

He further added that Shohei Ohtani is very meticulous in practices and preparations before any matches “and that’s what makes him so good.” Freddie Freeman on the other hand commended, how he is putting in the work to be one of the best players in the sport. 

Roberts went as far as to comment how Shotime “arguably could be the best player of our generation.” Sadly, the Dodgers star is currently having trouble at the plate with runners in scoring position. However, Roberts believes that he’ll recover the lost opportunities in future games.

Dave Roberts highly praises Shohei Ohtani amidst pitcher’s rough patch

With Shohei Ohtani undergoing a rough patch at plates, LA Dodgers manager Dave Roberts admitted “he can do a better job of getting into a count” and believes that day won’t be long to come. He says, Ohtani has been positive and is ready to implement changes for the betterment of his plays.

As an aggressive player, Roberts reveals how Ohtani is driven to compete with the best team and players and how he’s willing to make changes for the team to win and go to playoffs. He added,

He is completely open to getting better in any way, shape, or form…He plays to win.

Ohtani’s 2024 season started on a rough note. Getting bomb threats during the Seoul Series to his former interpreter Ippei Mizuhara’s betting case. The Dodgers pitcher and designated hitter currently has a score of 1-for-19 with runners in scoring position compared to Tuesday’s .289 career average score, along with a .618 slugging percentage, 1.036 OPS, and 45 HRs.
