The winners and still the champions of the Major League Baseball in 2025 are the Los Angeles Dodgers. The California-based side mounted an epic comeback and edged out the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 after 11 innings to repeat as champions.
After trading blows left and right, the World Series came down to Game 7. Saturday marked the first World Series Game 7 in MLB since 2019, when the Washington Nationals came back to beat the Houston Astros.
The Dodgers had to make a similar comeback, quite literally. A few hours before the game, the National League side announced that Shohei Ohtani would be the starting pitcher for Game 7 and go up against Max Scherez.
The Blue Jays struck first through a massive 3-run home run from Bo Bichette. The 2nd baseman homered off Ohtani and put his team in the driving seat.
The Dodgers pulled one run back through a bases-loaded sacrifice fly from Teoscar Hernandez in the 4th inning. Another sac fly, this time from Tommy Edman in the 6th inning, made it a 3-2 game.
The hosts then stuck back. A double from Andres Gimenez, who earlier got into a massive brawl with relief pitcher Justin Wrobleski, saw Ernie Clement score and put the Blue Jays 4-2 up.
The Dodgers stayed alive with a towering solo home run from Max Muncy in the 8th inning. His home run against Trey Yasavage cut down the deficit to one run.

It was the 9th inning where drama unfolded. The Dodgers leveled the game through an unlikely source of Miguel Rojas. The veteran smacked a solo home run off Jeff Hoffman on a 3-2 pitch to tie the game at 4-4.

The 36-year-old was thrown into Game 6 on Friday with the team’s season on the line. The move from Dave Roberts worked out well in the end. Rojas became the first player in MLB history to hit a game-tying home run in the 9th inning.

He then made an impressive defensive play at the bottom of the 9th inning. The Blue Jays loaded up the bases after Yoshinobu Yamamoto hit Alejandro Kirk. After Daulton Varsho hit a ground ball, Rojas would sweep up the ball and make the play at home in time to get the second out.
Andy Pages would then make an incredible catch to get Ernie Clement out. The outfielder would collide with Enrique Hernandez in the outfield, but he was able to hold on to the ball.
The Dodgers then squandered a similar bases-loaded opportunity in the 10th inning. The two outfielders, who were involved in the 9th inning moment, grounded out and were unable to drive in the run.
Will Smith then became the hero. The catcher hit the Dodgers’ 3rd solo home run of the game in the top of the 11th inning to put them 5-4 up. It was the first time, they lead in this game.

Yamamoto, who started Game 6, would go on to end it. After walking Addison Barger, the Blue Jays had 2 runners on base with 1 out. Kirk ended up hitting a groundball, resulting in a double play, which ended the game and gave the Dodgers their 9th World Series title.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto named World Series MVP as Dodgers repeat as champions
The city of Los Angeles will have another party as the Dodgers scripted a massive comeback in Game 7 to repeat as champions. Japanese pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto was declared the 2025 World Series MVP.

After going the distance in NLCS Game 2 against the Milwaukee Brewers, the right-handed pitcher repeated this feat in Game 2. Yamamoto threw his 2nd successive complete game in Game 2 after the Dodgers had lost Game 1.
He then started Game 6 with their season on the line. While he did not have a complete game this time out, he threw 6 strong innings and gave up just 1 run.
With the game balanced in the 9th inning, Roberts called him again. Yamamoto got out of the jam in the 9th inning and proceeded to throw 2.2 innings in Game 7, just a day after his heroics in Game 6.
He threw a combined 17.2 innings in this Fall Classic and picked up 15 strikeouts while giving up just 2 runs. He was thus named the MVP of the series.
