The Los Angeles Dodgers suffered a crushing 5-3 defeat against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park on Thursday. This saw the host complete a 3-game series sweep and delivered a huge blow to the visitors.
The Dodgers have had a mixed season this year. At times, they have been on a huge winning streak and then fallen off the clip. After sweeping the Cincinnati Reds last week, they ended up dropping 2 games against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
After losing 9-7 on Tuesday and getting shut out 3-0 on Wednesday, the Dodgers went up against reigning NL Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes in trying to avoid getting swept. The Pirates’ ace would go on to dominate the opposition.
He would throw 6 scoreless innings and give up just 2 hits and 1 walk. On top of that, he picked up 8 strikeouts and lowered his season ERA to 1.98. While the Dodgers did rally back later in the game, they were unable to avoid a 3rd straight defeat.
FINAL: Pirates 5, #Dodgers 3

This loss sees the Dodgers continue an unwanted trend. As per reports from MLB.com, the reigning World Series champions have an 11-4 record since August 1 against teams that have a win percentage of .500 or more. At the same time, they are 4-12 against teams that have a win percentage of .500 or less.
In simple terms, this means the Dodgers have performed well against some playoff-contending teams but have struggled to take care of business against teams that have not had a good time this season.
Despite the series sweep, the Pirates are 13 games behind the .500 win percentage mark. They are also at the bottom of the NL Central with a 64-77 record.
Social media reacts to LA Dodgers dropping series against Pirates
After losing the series against their division rivals, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Los Angeles Dodgers were looking to get back to winning ways against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Unfortunately, things did not work out the way they had hoped, as the Pirates sunk their ship.

After being shut out in the 2nd game of the series, the Dodgers had no answer against Paul Skenes on Thursday. A dominant performance from the right-handed pitcher led his team to a huge win against the current champions.
This series sweep of the Dodgers ignited some wild reactions on social media. While the Pirates fans celebrated a famous series win, the Dodgers fans were left frustrated. Many took shots at the team management, with one user writing, “This is pathetic” on X. Check out that and some other reactions from X below:

Despite this barren run, the Dodgers are still in 1st place in the NL West Standings. Their division rivals, the San Diego Padres, failed to make any ground on them as they themselves got swept by the Baltimore Orioles. The Dodgers will need to be a bit careful as their next opponents are the O’s.
Miguel Rojas claims the Dodgers are not having a good time following a series sweep at the hands of the Pirates
The Los Angeles Dodgers endured another tough loss on Thursday as they got swept in the 3-game series by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Following the game, veteran infielder Miguel Rojas admitted that his team is not having a good time at the moment.

Rojas went 2-for-4 on Thursday and cut the deficit down to 5-3 with a single in the 9th inning with two outs. Ben Rortvedt, who was brought in to replace Dalton Rushing, would end up striking out while swinging on a pitch below the strike zone.
After the game, Miguel Rojas expressed that the pressure and frustration had finally started to build on the team.
I feel like ever since we started playing poorly a couple months ago, the pressure and frustration has been building up on the team. And I don’t see anybody smiling and having a good time. We all know, when you’re losing baseball games, it’s not that fun.
Miguel Rojas told the reporters
After a 3-game away series against the Orioles, the NL West leaders will return home to face the Colorado Rockies, a team against whom they shared their recent 4-game series with two wins. Following that, they will engage in a 3-game series against their California rivals, the San Francisco Giants.
