The highly acclaimed match series between Andrade and Carmelo Hayes concluded on the SmackDown season premiere. Although not officially announced, this was also a #1 contender’s match for the United States Championship. After yet another hard-hitting bout, the Latino wrestler emerged victorious with Hammer Lock DDT from the top rope. Following the match, LA Knight came out to confront his next opponent.

If that wasn’t enough, the United States Champion later took to X to send Andrade a message. Knight trash-talked his #1 contender and Hayes, claiming that there won’t be any flips and dives during his match. The Megastar said that his battles end only one way: with a Blunt Force Trauma (BFT) to his opponent’s head. Moreover, Knight vowed to walk in and out of next week’s showdown with his US title intact.

On last week’s SmackDown, Carmelo Hayes and Andrade confronted the 41-year-old star. The rivals made their intentions to challenge the United States Champion clear. Moments later, a brawl ensued, which led to Knight standing tall after delivering BFTs on both stars.

LA Knight has been on a tear since winning the title at SummerSlam. The veteran trounced Logan Paul at the Biggest Party of the Summer, despite the latter receiving help from MGK. In the weeks that have followed, Knight has successfully defended his newly won title against Santos Escobar and Ludwig Kaiser on the blue brand.

As such, the upcoming match against Andrade will mark the erstwhile Eli Drake‘s third title defense. Not only that, but he will also equal the number of times his predecessor put his belt on the line.

What else transpired on the season premiere episode of SmackDown?

After five years, SmackDown finally returned to the USA Network. And the show kicked off with a banger of a match. Cody Rhodes and Solo Sikoa went to war for the Undisputed WWE Championship inside the steel cage. In the end, The American Nightmare retained his title. However, the post-match angle left fans in shock.

Rhodes and longtime rival, Roman Reigns, fended off an attack from The Bloodline. Later on in the show, the duo set aside their differences, joining forces to face the faction. Meanwhile, Nia Jax stirred the pot between Bayley and Naomi after announcing that she would defend her title at Bad Blood.

Michin squashed Piper Niven while Randy Orton returned to SmackDown. The Viper teamed with Kevin Owens to defeat A-Town Down Under. Needless to say, the show marked the start of a new era for the blue brand.
