LA Knight has made a name for himself as one of the best mic workers in WWE at the moment. What’s even more impressive is that he has done so in a relatively short run on the main roster. What makes him a fan favorite are his creative insults and his ability to decimate his opponents in a battle of words. Unfortunately, Santos Escobar recently became one of The Megastar’s victims.
In a backstage segment on the latest episode of SmackDown, Escobar congratulated Knight for finally getting an official United States Championship match. The Legado Del Fantasma leader said that if it was the two of them going head-to-head, he would come out on top. The former TNA star said that he still had a few weeks until SummerSlam, and challenged him to a match. Further, he said that if he wanted to get in touch with him, his mother had the 41-year-old’s number.
Shortly after the segment, WWE announced on their website that LA Knight and Santos Escobar will face each other on next week’s episode of SmackDown. These two superstars have a lot of history together, dating back more than a year. In the summer of 2023, The Megastar had his run-in with Rey Mysterio and a few members of the LWO, including the 40-year-old. They were also a part of the Men’s Money in the Bank ladder match last year.

This year, the two have already faced off multiple times. They battled each other in a singles match in the King of the Ring tournament. Furthermore, they were also part of a Triple Threat qualifier for the Money in the Bank match alongside Logan Paul. The match was eventually won by Knight after getting some help from Jalen Brunson.
LA Knight discusses his place amongst the top WWE stars
LA Knight recently spoke with Cody Rhodes on What Do You Wanna Talk About? He discussed the WWE’s golden circle of superstars and how fans perceived them. The 41-year-old claimed that he had been compared to some of the top stars in the company, but that was only because he broke out in merchandise sales over 2023.
The fans noticed that earlier it was Cody Rhodes who was doing huge merchandise numbers. Now, it was Knight. At the risk of sounding overly humble, he believed that fans still did not place him on the same level as the likes of The American Nightmare.
The SmackDown superstar claimed that he was knocking on the ceiling, which was the same as the floor for Rhodes. He believed he was on the 11th floor. Meanwhile, someone like the WWE Undisputed Champion was on the 12th floor.
