La Liga 2020/2021: Alaves vs FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona slipped to a 1-1 draw with Alaves in La Liga. Moreover, they are a whopping 8 points below Real Madrid and lay at 12th place in the La Liga table. Griezmann scored the goal for Barca after a long scoring drought this season. Meanwhile, Alaves defended bravely and secured a famous draw despite going down to 10 men after the sending off for Jota.

First Half

Barcelona started the first half well and got ample opportunities to score. Ansu Fati hit wide after getting a one on one chance with the goalkeeper of Alaves. Moreover, Greizmann was also guilty of missing chances and Messi had a free kick cleared off the line. However, all the efforts of Barca went of waste as goalie Neto gifted a goal to Alaves as he was unable to control the pass from Pique. Luis Rioja punished Barca for the mistake and got one of the easiest goals of his career.

Second Half

FC Barcelona were determined to win the match in the second half and Koeman brought in Trincao, Pedri and Pjanic. However, the goalie of Alaves, Pacheco was in superb form and denied Barca repeatedly. But Alaves lost control of the match after Jota was sent off for a high boot on Pique. This gave an opening for Barca and they duly equalized with Griezmann scoring a beautiful goal with a chip over the keeper. Barcelona huffed and puffed for a winner but couldn’t get it with Alaves holding out for a draw.

Koeman was rightfully upset with his team and said, “I’m worried by our performance in attack. It’s not an attitude problem, nor concentration, but it’s a question of being more assured in front of goal. Of course I’m worried that we’ve only picked up two points from the last 12 [available]. I think the play has been, in general, very satisfactory. I’d be more worried if we weren’t creating chances. We have to perform better in front of goal. The final pass, the final shot. We can’t miss so many. We’re missing too many.”
