La Liga: Espanyol vs Barcelona Player Ratings as Luuk de Jong rescues one point for Barcelona
Goals from Pedri and Luuk de Jong rescued one point for Barcelona from the Barcelona Derby with a 2-2 draw with Espanyol at the Barcelona Stadium on Sunday. Sergi Darder and Raul de Tomas scored for the hosts.
Let us have a look at how each player from the two teams performed:
Espanyol
Diego Lopez (GK) (8/10): He made some fine saves in the first half to deny Barcelona. Lopez was also decent in the second half.
Adria Pedrosa (7/10): Pedrosa struggled to deal with Adama Traore but managed to keep Sergino Dest relatively quiet.
Leandro Cabrera (7/10): Cabrera was disciplined in the central areas and was one of the finest defenders in the game.
Sergi Gomez (7/10): Gomez partnered Cabrera in the central defense and put up a useful shift.
Aleix Vidal (8/10): Vidal was an absolute workhorse and had a decent battle with Gavi. He kept his side safe from the danger posed by Barcelona’s quick transitional play and was one of the best defenders of the game.
Keidi Bare (6/10): Bare struggled to hold on to the ball in the middle areas and hence Espanyol never looked threatening with possession.
Tonny Vilhena (6/10): Vilhenna put in some decent crosses but barely managed to find his man in the box.
Sergi Darder (8/10): Darder scored a long-distance curler to equalize for Espanyol in the second half from outside the box. He was a constant menace for the Barcelona defenders.
Yangel Herrera (6/10): Herrera was a creative force in the midfield but had an underwhelming day.
Javi Puado (7/10): Puado caused some trouble down the right flank and delivered several useful crosses.
Raul de Tomas (8/10): Tomas outsmarted Eric Garcia with his run and scored Espanyol’s second goal of the game.
Substitutes
Nicolas Melamed (7/10): Melamed turned things central and defensive for Espanyol which was required at the closing exchanges of the game.
Manuel Morlanes (N/A)
Fernando Calero (N/A)
Fran Merida (N/A)
Barcelona
Marc Andre Ter-Stegen (6/10): Ter Stegen was not much called into action throughout the game.
Sergino Dest (6/10): Dest was struggling to keep up with his opposition and was out of his touch, especially with the ball.
Ronald Araujo (7/10): Araujo put up an impressive shift in the first half. However, he had to be taken back in the half time due to an injury.
Gerard Pique (7/10): Pique was having a decent game as well before he was sent off for an altercation.
Jordi Alba (7/10): Alba made some mistakes in his attacking positions and looked confused and nervous while going ahead. However, he was highly accurate in his crosses and created the first goal for Pedri.
Frenkie de Jong (6/10): De Jong lost the ball in crucial areas and can do better.
Sergio Busqets (5/10): Busquets was slow off the ball, which is probably natural given his age.
Pedri (8/10): Pedri created a number of openings with quick one touch play and progressive tactics. He was the sole creator of Barcelona’s central midfield.
Ferran Torres (6/10): Torres never seemed dominant enough in the game as most of his runs were lateral and he was out of position.
Gavi (7/10): Gavi was physical with his approach and displayed immense intent and dedication to win the game for Barcelona.
Adama Traore (8/10): Traore’s crosses troubled Espanyol throughout the game. His final delivery in the game resulted in the 96th-minute goal by Luuk de Jong.
Substitutes
Ousmane Dembele (6/10): Had some decent moments but not accuracy.
Nico Gomez (N.A)
Eric Garcia (4/10): He was slow to react in the second Espanyol goal and failed to mark the opposition properly.
Luuk de Jong (8/10): Luuk de Jong scored the header in the final moments of the game and had an instant impact on the game.
Pierre Emerick Aubameyang (N/A)
