Los Angeles Dodgers star Freddie Freeman's walk-off grand slam in World Series was played on the Los Angeles Lakers jumbotron

With the 2024 NBA season underway, Los Angeles Lakers fans packed Crypto.com Arena to watch their stars take on the Phoenix Suns. But at the same time, the Los Angeles Dodgers were standing with bases loaded trailing the New York Yankees in Game 1 of the World Series. Little did the Lakers fans know that they would watch Freddie Freeman script history.

The game was not only the first World Series battle between the two super teams after more than 40 years, but also where the likes of Shohei Ohtani would face off against Aaron Judge. With such high stakes, it was only natural for the Lakers to broadcast the game on their jumbotron at every interval. Up until the extra inning though, the Los Angeles fans did not have much to cheer about.

But during a timeout, as the game came back on the jumbotron, fans noticed that their Dodgers were down. But crucially, they had their bases loaded and Freddie Freeman on strike. They started cheering for him to score a run to take the lead.

Soon, Freeman whipped his bat to send a 93mph Nestor Cortes inside fastball high up into the sky. The Crypto.com crowd launched into a collective cheer as the ball took its time through the air. Then, as it came down into the packed stands of Dodgers Stadium, fans knew they just witnessed history.

Freddie Freeman had just scored the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history. This remarkable feat sent the crowd into a rapturous roar, which continued even when the play resumed on the court. Even the commentators mentioned that the cheer was for the Dodgers, not for the basketball game.

Bradley Beal’s epic reaction to Freddie Freeman’s walk-off grand slam

In that timeout, it was not just the fans watching the action being telecasted on the jumbotron. Even the players witnessed what was happening a few miles away at Dodgers Stadium. ESPN cameras caught a mic’d up Bradley Beal taking it all in on the sidelines.

Oh, he spanked it for game … Freddie Freeman … OOOOOO.

The Phoenix Suns superstar was just as shocked as everyone else inside the arena. In the nearly 150-year history of baseball, nothing like this has happened. Beal was joined by his Suns teammates as their eyes were also locked on watching the Los Angeles Dodgers win Game 1.

Bradley Beal and his Suns lost the game to the Los Angeles Lakers 123-116. But even in that loss, witnessing history being created is something Beal and every sporting fan will cherish. Game 2 of the MLB World Series will play out at Dodgers stadium tomorrow.
