Lakers, Clippers and Raptors in the race to sign Tristan Thompson?
As the date for the drafts is approaching, November 18 could possibly strengthen or weaken major teams. Much like every year, the rumors are again in the regarding several players to be drafted away from their long-term associated franchises. The same case is with Tristan Thompson of Cleveland Cavaliers. As Los Angeles Lakers, Clippers and Toronto Raptors could possibly make a move for the forward center.
Tristan Thompson was roped in by the Cavaliers when Lebron James left them in 2011. Kyrie Irving was their first overall draft, while Thompson was their overall fourth.
Tristan Thompson out of Cleveland Cavaliers?
After spending 9 years with the Cavs, Thompson is the face of the franchise. But their desperation to win another championship has increased after 2016 and especially a very bad 2019-20 season.
An NBA insider suggested, “Thompson does have interested suitors on the market – mainly the Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Clippers and the Toronto Raptors, according to league sources.”
However, this possibility sounded more like a hollow hope because the report also hinted at something opposite. It said, “But, those same sources also shared that Thompson would like to try and finish his career with the Cavaliers and continue helping the team’s young core develop.”
Talking about the teams who could capture him. Both the team from Los Angeles would like strengthen their defence. Particularly for the Lakers, Lebron has played 4 years alongside Thompson. While Clippers would want some freedom defensively for Kawhi Leonard, if they bring in Thompson that is possible. Lastly Toronto Raptors would rope Thompson in only if they lose Serge Ibaka to free agency.
