JJ Redick talks about Anthony Davis
Anthony Davis has proved to be a great asset to the team after getting traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. In his first year with the Lakers, he managed to win a Championship in the 2020 NBA bubble. Since then Lakers have been a playoff team with LeBron James and Anthony Davis being the frontrunners and leading the team. Recently, during an interview, Lakers head coach JJ Redick talked about Davis.
After being left out of his NBA All-Defensive team from last season, JJ Redick during an interview explained why he didn’t include Anthony Davis. Redick left off Davis even after he made the All-NBA defensive first team.
There's a big difference in being a top-10 defender and making an All-Defense team, there's a distinction between the two. Anthony Davis is one of the two or three best defensive players in the NBA. You certainly have to factor in the stats, the advanced stats and of course the team performance on defense. In both years, I weighed heavily on how the team performed defensively.JJ Redick via NBA Radio
Overall, Davis was great for the Lakers, especially at the defensive end. He averaged 2.3 blocks and 1.2 steals last season. But the Lakers together had a defensive rating of 114.8 which was 17th in the league. The Lakers lost in the first round to the Denver Nuggets and a have lot to focus on in the coming season.
Now with JJ Redick becoming the Head Coach of the Lakers, improving defense would be one of the top priorities. Davis is also a part of the stacked Team USA for the 2024 Paris Olympics. He will be a part of the frontcourt and will be the defensive anchor of the team.
