“Lakers misery”- Twitter reacts to Trevor Ariza’s four-point play after being fouled by Isiah Thomas
The Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Phoenix Suns by 18 points today, but there were several good plays made by the Lakers. One of them was when Trevor Ariza shot a three and his teammate Isiah Thomas fell onto him after being pushed from behind by the Phoenix Suns’ Javelle McGee, which led to a four-point play for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Isiah Thomas indirectly fouls his own teammate
Isiah Thomas was recently signed by the Los Angeles Lakers on a ten-day contract, and in his debut against the Timberwolves, he ended up with 19 points. Everyone knows what Isiah Thomas is capable of, and this 10-day contract is a way back into the league. Trevor Ariza, who has been a role player for several teams throughout his life, was involved in a hilarious sequence along with Isiah Thomas in the game against the Suns. While shooting a three in the second quarter, Ariza ended up getting fouled. It was not until the play was reviewed that the viewers realized that it was Ariza’s own teammate who had fouled him after being pushed from behind.
Following this, the referees gave a free throw to Isiah Thomas instead of Trevor Ariza, but as long as the team is getting four points, it does not matter who is shooting the free throw. That is why it was still labeled as a four-point play. This play was a rare occurrence of a player other than Lebron James having an impact on today’s game in any way. It was an ugly sight to witness James performing at a high level while the rest of his team, which includes role players like Isiah Thomas, played horrendously.
If the Lakers wish to compete for the title, then it is about time that they stepped up. With Anthony Davis out for four weeks, the road ahead for the men in purple and gold looks rough. With the skill that the team possesses, four-point plays such as these should be a common occurrence.
