Jeanie Buss, the owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, has received international attention for her recent remarks about her team’s 2020 NBA championship victory. Buss made an unplanned appearance on the Above The Rim Podcast with former Lakers and NBA great Dwight Howard. The 2020 Lakers arguably will be remembered as one of the most spectacular NBA championship teams, thanks to their talent on the floor and the extraordinary conditions they went through off the court.

Buss indicated at a potential ‘victory ceremony’ for the 2020 championship team. In response, the former Lakers player pondered if the organization would be able to honor them with a parade in the future for the 2020 NBA title win. This is because they were unable to witness it due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Okay, well, don’t rule it out. Maybe someday, like someday something will make sense. So I’ll never close the door 100%. Like something will make sense.

Jeanie Buss told Dwight Howard

This would surely bring a lot of joy to the Lakers’ fans as well as the 2020 championship-winning squad. The Lakers had captured their 17th NBA title in 2020. This matched them with the Boston Celtics for the most in NBA history, until the Celtics added their 18th last season.

However, the Lakers did not partake in the traditional triumph parade that accompanies a title as huge public gatherings were banned during the period.

The Los Angeles Lakers’ 2020 championship squad remains a heated topic, especially given the team’s recent failures to recreate that success. Former NBA player Dwight Howard was instrumental in the team’s championship run. He spoke about his performance on his podcast alongside the Los Angeles Lakers owner, Jeanie Buss.

In response, Buss was frank about Howard’s Lakers’ display in 2020. Jeanie Buss claimed that Howard was “one of the key players for the Lakers” during their 2020 NBA championship win. Howard, back then, had surprised everyone when he departed the Lakers following the 2020 season to join the Philadelphia 76ers in 2021.

Howard also hilariously, stated that he is ‘still in NBA shape’ and asked Buss for a chance in the Lakers squad. Given that the Lakers are preparing for an important 2024-25 NBA season with newly appointed head coach JJ Redick, it will be intriguing to watch how the Lakers perform throughout the 2024-25 NBA season.
