Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid traded tackles against Francisco Escribá Segura’s men at the Wanda Metropolitano for their third match of the season. Atletico had been sitting strong at the top of the table bagging two out of two wins while Elche found themselves at 16th place with a loss and a draw.

An all-important encounter went completely against their way as Atletico Madrid were not easy to compete against and they proved why in the 39th minute of the match. A beautiful assist by Rodrigo de Paul and a marvelous finish by Ángel Correa in the back of the net, got Atletico Madrid in the lead.

That turned out to be the only goal of the match as Atlético Madrid win three out of three games and keep their top spot safe in the points table. On the other hand, problems keep building up for Elche.

Jan Oblak (GK) (7/10) :

It was a rather easy day at office for Oblak as he managed to pick up a couple of saves but didn’t get the gloves warm enough as the defence didn’t let the ball through.

Saul Niguez (7.2/10) :

Saul did a fine job at winning ground duels and he made two attempts at goal but was way off target on both occasions. He also won a single ariel challenge.

Jose Giminez (7.6/10) : Jose Giminez was the best out of the other team defenders and he did a commendable job at keeping the ball away from the goal. He had a shy at goal but was denied. Overall, he won all the defence battles he came across.

Stefan Savic (6.8/10) : Stefan had a decent match and did a good job at supporting the team as a whole. He made two crucial clearences of an incoming ball in the box while he was excellent at winning ground duels.

Marcos Llorente (6.8/10) : Marcos had a tough game as he failed to contribute in creating any chances. He gave away the ball on multiple occasions and lost possession.

Thomas Lemar (6.4/10) : Thomas had a decent game. He was struggling in winning the ball against the challenges he faced. Thomas lost possession on numerous occasions. He played for 62 minutes before being subbed by Keiran Trippier.

Geoffrey Kondogbia (7.7/10) : Geoffrey was a top class performer in today’s game. He had the best time at defending an winning the ball as he won seven tackles and two crucial interceptions. He also made several long passes to keep excellent possession.

Koke (7.1/10) : Koke took care of the central midfield with great intent. He was right up there making long passes, clearances and great passes. He had an opportunity at goal but was denied by the keeper.

Rodrigo de Paul (7.6/10) : The Argentine footballer had an exceptional time out in the middle. He provided Correa with an exceptional assist to help get Atlético the lead in this encounter. He had a great game and made great passes on several occasions. He even did a fine job at stealing the balls.

Angel Correa (7.3/10) : The striker seemed very confident right from the start and he was mesmerizing to watch with his quick footwork. In the 39th minute, courtesy of Rodrigo’s assist, he provided Atlético with their opening goal and helped them remain on top of the table.

Yannick Carrasco (7.1/10) : The striker had a decent game overall. He had a shy at goal but was denied the opportunity by the goalkeeper. Yannick did a commendable job at winning ground duels to maintain possession.

Kieran Trippier (6.8/10) : Kieran came in the 62nd minute to replace Rodrigo de Paul. It was difficult to win Ariel duels against him. He was excellent at winning tackles throughout his stint.

Luis Suarez (6.6/10) : One of the most trusted strikers in the world, Luis Suarez, found his way to the centre in place of Thomas Lemar. He won an Ariel duel and followed that with an opportunity at goal but was way off target.

Renan Lodi (6.3/10) : Lodi came in at the 85th minute of the game and didn’t get a lot of time on field. However, he did a decent job at supporting the other players on-field.

Kiko Casilla (GK) (6.4/10) : Kiko did a decent job but conceded a goal early in the first half that cost the team the match. Overall, he made three saves in the match.

Enzo Roco (6.7/10) : Enzo was one of the best defenders among the defence unit. He assisted with four successive long balls while winning a tackle and an interception.

Pedro Bigas (6.8/10) : Pedro Bigas had a busy day in his defensive half as Atlético kept attacking. However, despite one marginal error, Pedro made four crucial clearences to keep his team in the game.

Helibelton Palacios (6.5/10) : Helibelton had a decent game as compared to his other teammates. He lost possession more than any other player on field while struggling miserably at winning duels.

Gonzalo Verdu (6.8/10) : Verdu played a crucial role in making the game play as he made as many as 11 successful long passes and tried to keep creating space for a much needed opportunity.

Johan Mojica (6.5/10) : Johan had an average but a decent game. He was busy throughout the game as he kept challenging the Elche forwards and won several battles. He made crucial interceptions time to time while also making a good clearance.

Raúl Guti (6.2/10) : It was a below average match for Guti. He did a fine job at passing the ball effectively while also winning ground duels. However, he failed on multiple occasions to breakthrough the defense unit and create scoring opportunities for Elche.

Iván Marcone (7/10) : Ivan had a good match overall. He didn’t get involved in challenging ariel battles but did win a couple of ground duels. He was excellent with footwork and made numerous successful tackles but didn’t receive the support he was hoping from his teammates in the midfield.

Fidel (6.6/10) : Fidel was undoubtedly the busiest player in the midfield. He was excellent with his pace and was seen to winning almost every tackle battle he encountered against Atlético . He served as many as seven crucial long balls and was excellent with his passing and footwork.

Lucas Boyé (6.5/10) : The striker didn’t have the best of games as he failed to convert any opportunities into an equalizer for Elche. He had a tough time winning the ball and gave away the possession several times.

Pere Milla (6.5/10) : He paired along well with Lucas but the pair had a tough time creating opportunities for their time. He managed to play for 63 minutes before being subbed. Pere failed at several occasions on winning the ball and gave away possession one too many times. It was a tough time for the Elche forwards in this match-up. Pere also found difficulty in winning ground battles against Atletico.

Substitutes :

Diego Gonzalez (6.6/10) : Diego was subbed into the field in the 86th minute to replace Pedro Bigas. He didn’t get ample of time on the pitch to make an impact but contributed by making a good clearance and won couple of duels.

Josan (6.8/10) : Josan replaced Mojica in the 82nd minute and came in to help in whatever way possible to get a goal on the scoreline for Elche. However, except for making a stand-alone clearance he didn’t make any sort of impact.

Jose Morente (6.7/10) : He walked in to replace Lucas Boyé and in eight minutes of gameplay he managed to find a few attacking challenges against the opposing players.

Guido Carrillo (6.5/10) : Guido was sent in with hopes of helping the Elche forwards with opportunities at goal but couldn’t stand a chance against the defense unit of Atletico. Although he did end up winning both Ariel battles in the midfield trying hard to create a way for Elche forwards to attack.

Dario Benedetto (6.7/10) : Dario had a decent game but wasn’t creating any chances for himself or the other forwards. He won a few challenges on ground but failed to make the most out of the gathered possession.
