Lamar Jackson’s first day at Baltimore Ravens training camp ended abruptly. The team doctors sent him home after they discovered he felt sickly.

On Saturday, Jackson arrived early at Owings Mills, Maryland, for the Ravens training camp. However, head coach John Harbaugh, the coaching staff, and fellow Ravens players noticed the usual swagger in his body language was missing.

He just started getting sick [on Saturday] midday in the meetings, [and] it got kind of not good. [So], he tried to get in today and get rest and then get fluids and things. It just wasn't good.

Social media reaction to Lamar Jackson’s sudden sickness

Jackson is a top 5 quarterback. Last season, he bagged the second NFL MVP award after leading the Ravens to a 13-4 season, finishing with 3678 passing yards and 24 touchdowns, along with 148 carries for 821 yards (535 yards per carry) and scoring 5 touchdowns.

Despite his regular season pedigree of 58-19, Jackson often struggles in the playoffs—2 wins from 6 games. On top of that, he missed 8 games through various injuries in the last two seasons. So, fans sounded worried about his sudden illness on the first day of training camp.

Coach Harbaugh defended his quarterback

Regardless of the online criticism, coach Harbaugh stuck by his franchise quarterback. Even though he agreed that Jackson is far from a finished product, there’s no shortage of talent.

He's [Lamar Jackson is] still growing. He's got a growth mindset, [and] he's going to get better and better, no doubt. But what does he have to do to prove himself to some people? Right?
John Harbaugh said, per ESPN.com

Harbaugh backed the three-time Pro Bowler, becoming the best Ravens quarterback and someday even being counted as one of the best in NFL history.

It's going to happen by Lamar, his work ethic, and his brilliant talent, [and] by all of us pouring into that effort together as a team and by the grace of God and God's goodwill.
Harbaugh added

In Jackson’s absence, veteran journeyman Josh Johnson took over the first team reps for the day. Yet, rest assured, when the former Louisville starter comes back, he will take over the reins once more.
