The Baltimore Ravens, who began the season with a sluggish start, are now poised to shatter several NFL records. Among these coveted records is the single-season rushing yards record, or at least Lamar Jackson thinks so.

Derrick Henry arrived in Baltimore in the offseason after being let go by the Tennessee Titans. Henry was passed by many teams including the Dallas Cowboys who cited monetary reasons. He has now found an explosive rhythm, setting up a dangerous duo with Jackson in the center.

Referred to as King Henry, the 30-year-old from Florida is well-endowed in athletic strength, making it difficult for the NFL defenses to contain him. Derrick Henry has rushed for 873 yards so far in the season with eight rushing touchdowns. Henry leads the NFL in rushing TDs and yards, averaging 124.7 in each game.

At this rate, Henry is on pace to break Eric Dickerson’s 40-year-old record of 2,105 yards for the Los Angeles Rams in 1984 and Lamar Jackson thinks it’s possible. Jackson expressed his confidence in Henry to reporters after the Wednesday practice.

It’s there. I feel like he has a great chance of achieving that, I think he can do it. I believe he can do it.

Lamar Jackson told reporters on Wednesday

Henry admitted that he doesn’t think of the record, nor does he focus on individual statistics. The 30-year-old, now in his ninth season, is also chasing his first ring which has eluded him for so long.

I don’t really try to think about that too much. Just focus on me doing my job and being better and better every week. I don’t really try to get into the statistics of things. I focus on the team goals.

Henry has previously come close to breaking Eric Dickerson’s record four years ago when he rushed for 2,027 yards for the Tennessee Titans. Dickerson’s record has stayed the course, with Adrian Peterson falling nine runs shorter in 2012 is the closest anyone has come. If Henry crosses the 2,000-mark, he will also become the first NFL player to record two seasons with more than 2,000 rushing yards.

Derrick Henry keeps on proving his supremacy with jaw-dropping stats

Derrick Henry’s 873 yards so far are the most rushing yards through seven games of a season since DeMarco Murray‘s 913 yards in 2014 for the Dallas Cowboys. Furthermore, he’s only second to Walter Peyton in most rushing games yards by a player 30 or older through seven games in NFL history. Peyton recorded 875 yards for the Chicago Bears in 1984 when he was 31 years old.

On top of all these exceptional stats and cataclysmic performances, Derrick Henry ascertains a certain dominance. In the league as of now, 23 teams have fewer overall rushing yards than Derrick Henry’s 873 yards. His rushing stats overpass an unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs (773 yards), Super Bowl hopefuls Minnesota Vikings (716 yards), and the Dallas Cowboys (463 yards). Cowboys are the worst team in the league in this specific statistic.

Earlier this season, Henry became the 32nd player in NFL history to reach 10,000 career rushing yards. He’s also one of only five players to achieve both 10,000 rushing yards and 100 scrimmage touchdowns within his first 125 games.

The Baltimore Ravens are playing the Cleveland Browns next, who are ranked fifteenth in NFL’s run defenses.
