Mark Andrews worked hard to become an elite tight end in the NFL. He probably envisioned himself catching passes from Lamar Jackson and impacting crucial wins for the Baltimore Ravens. But the Divisional round against the Buffalo Bills this past Sunday turned those visions into a nightmare.
That nightmare came about as he was labeled as the reason the Ravens lost that matchup against the Bills. His costly drop while trying to score a two-point try ended up giving the game away. With that loss, the Ravens finished another season without getting a chance at the most important silverware.
In the immediate moment after the drop, Andrews cut a dejected figure on the sidelines. He knew that fumble would mean the Baltimore Ravens will have to wait one more season to have another shot. But seeing his partner in crime sulking, Lamar Jackson went over to have a word.
The mics did not capture what Jackson told his favorite tight end when he was closer. But sidelines mics picked those words mentioned above, trying to make it clear that Mark Andrews alone did not cost them the win.

Jackson continued with that sentiment during the post-game press conference. He clarified that he too was to blame and so was the rest of the team for this loss. If not for their collective errors, they could have won the game as he tried to deflect the blame off Mark Andrews.
Mark Andrews facing a lot of heat for his costly drop
After that drop, football fans ripped into Mark Andrews. They felt he missed what was an easy catch that ended the hard work the rest of his teammates have put together all season long. Those brickbats have turned ugly as reportedly threats have been made against him.
Maybe Lamar Jackson’s words could help soothe the situation. After all, Andrews is a locker room favorite and shown his good side whenever he is amidst fans. He once saved a woman’s life while on an airplane, showing his quick thinking and awareness.
It’s just that the awareness and quick thinking were not enough, as his hands could not hold on to the ball at the goal line. However, a new discourse has started where some are blaming Jackson for not throwing the ball in time.
They believe Andrews could not get a hold of the ball as he was falling backwards as Jackson threw the ball without enough velocity. Had the ball had a bit more pace, it would have landed in his chest, making it harder to clutch the ball. This discourse might take some time to go away as the Ravens head into the offseason.
