Fresh off a big win against the Commanders, Lamar Jackson didn’t spend much time basking in his glory. Instead, he turned the spotlight toward LSU sensation Jayden Daniels, showering the 22-year-old with praise and hype.
In a highly anticipated match, the Washington Commanders were defeated 23-30 by Jackson’s Baltimore Ravens at the M&T Bank Stadium. Jackson threw for 323 yards and a touchdown, while Daniels delivered his best passing performance of the season with 269 yards and two touchdowns. However, Jackson reigned supreme, one-upped himself in the most rushing yards for a quarterback to a second spot.
After the final whistle, Jackson took a moment to connect with Daniels on the field. In a later post-game interview, Jackson briefed about his exchange with the standout rookie quarterback. He also nodded to the hype revolving around the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner.
It’s still very early in the season for Jayden Daniels. However, in the shortest span, he has been consistent. He has paved his way into the MVP talks and trembled the power rankings and completion rates of high-profile QBs. He has been already likened to Jackson, with his record being compared to almost MVP last year CJ Stroud. Nevertheless, Jackson isn’t very fond of the comparisons and noted that he wants to be known as himself.
After six weeks, Daniels tops the NFL in expected points added per dropback, according to Tru Media—surpassing even the reigning MVP, Lamar Jackson. He’s leading the league by completing 75.3% of his passes, averaging 8.5 yards per attempt, with six touchdowns against just two interceptions. On the ground, he’s added 322 rushing yards at an average of 5.1 yards per carry and scored four more touchdowns.
Lamar Jackson is sending his jersey to Jayden Daniels
In a post-game interview with Tracy Wilson, Jackson dropped that he’s expecting to swap jerseys with the rookie quarterback. He also showered major praise on Daniels, calling him a ‘great player’ and alluded to the number of games he played.

When Wolfson joked that Daniels likely wanted Jackson’s jersey in return, Lamar responded without missing a beat. In a cheery tone, Jackson said that he would be sending his jersey to Daniels. The cheeky banter, thrilling matches, and healthy rivalry between the two generations of dual-threat quarterbacks are a storyline to keep an eye on.
The Commanders and Ravens are now on 4-2 after six games. The Commanders are playing the Carolina Panthers in the next week before the 2024 draft class first versus second overall match against the Chicago Bears. The Ravens, who have bounced off two initial defeats, will play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
