LaMelo Ball goes scoreless on debut as Hornets lose Cavaliers 114-121

LaMelo Ball

Although LaMelo Ball has got the trickery to make him go viral for his passes and assists. He surely isn’t on the right track when it comes to getting on the scoring sheet. It’s often said that a player never forgets his first game night. But LaMelo would want to get pass this embarrassing night as the Cleveland Cavaliers beat Charlotte Hornets 114-121.
LaMelo Ball was 0-for-5 from the field and 0-for-3 on 3-point attempts in 16 minutes off the bench. Ball also had three turnovers with three assists, two steals and one rebound as the Cavaliers won, having led by Collin Sexton, who scored 27 points.
LaMelo Ball has an embarrassing debut against Cleveland Cavaliers
Looks like his regular-season debut was an even bigger disappointment than his pre-season games and he didn’t bag a single point for himself. According to ESPN Stats and Info, “LaMelo Ball is the first Top-3 pick to score 0 points in his NBA debut since Otto Porter Jr. (2013). The only other Top-3 picks to be held scoreless in their NBA debut over the last 15 seasons are Hasheem Thabeet (2009) and Greg Oden (2008).”
LaMelo’s much-anticipated debut bears similarities to his older brother’s. Lonzo Ball, taken with the No. 2 pick by the Lakers in the 2017 draft, scored three points in 29 minutes in his NBA debut, shooting 1-for-6 from the field. He also grabbed nine rebounds with four assists, one steal and two turnovers.
But things significantly changed for Lonzo Ball in his second match. Hopefully, LaMelo meets the same fate. Will LaMelo be able to blossom into the player everyone’s hoping for? Or will he be just another over the top glorified player?
