LaMelo Ball responds to coach’s ‘benching’ with victory over Pistons

Earlier this week, all eyes were on the Charlotte Hornets, but for all the wrong reasons. The team lost a tight encounter against the Brooklyn Nets in Tuesday’s NBA Cup matchups, helped by a forgettable performance by LaMelo Ball. He scored just 12 points on 3-13 scoring in a game that saw Hornets coach Keith Lee bench the former 3rd overall pick.

However, after his rough outing on Tuesday, Ball bounced back in the Hornets 123-121 overtime victory over the Detroit Pistons. He finished with almost a triple double, pouring in 35 points with 6 rebounds and 9 assists to continue his strong start to the season. Unfortunately, he did foul out late in the game, leaving the door to a victory open for the Pistons. But that wasn’t to be.

LaMelo Ball’s teammate, and the number 2 pick from the 2023 NBA draft, Brandon Miller, took over during his co-stars absence. Miller poured in 8 points in overtime, to finish with a game high 38 points, while draining 8 threes to lead the Hornets to a win. The win places them within the playoff race with the 9th seed in the Eastern Conference.
