Lamine Yamal is by far the biggest asset Barcelona have produced in recent times. The 17-year-old has been so good for both club and country as many have begun comparing him to Lionel Messi himself. Barcelona took on Villarreal away from home in what turned out to be one of the best games of the season yet for Hansi Flick‘s side.
Lamine Yamal took center stage as the forward won a penalty, made several key passes and set up Raphinha for Barca’s fifth and final goal of the game. Yamal started on the wing as usual, and turned up just when his side needed him the most. Even though Robert Lewandowski scored a brace within 35 minutes from kick-off, Villarreal were a constant threat on the break.
Yamal dribbled into the box and was subsequently fouled, resulting in a spot kick for the visitors. However, Lewandowski ended up hitting the upright.
The teenager’s brilliance was on display for Raphinha’s second goal of the night, when the former whipped in a marvelous cross with the outside of his foot from near the halfway line. Yamal’s pass was so perfect that the Brazilian didn’t even have to take a touch before placing it past Diego Conde.

Even though Yamal has pushed aside any comparisons to Lionel Messi, fans are convinced that the youngster emulates the Argentine on the pitch. A fan commented that being able to do what he does at 17 is abnormal and that his skills need to be studied in a lab. Another stated that his trivela passes were better than both Vinicius Jr. & Luka Modric.
Fans are convinced that Barca will win La Liga over Real after the win put them four points ahead in the League. Others highlighted how Villarreal resorted to ‘dirty’ tackles and unnecessary fouls to keep out Yamal. Fans also highlighted how Raphinha stood up for Yamal after the player was taken down near the touchline.
As of now, Yamal even has more assists than Kevin De Bruyne for club and country since the start of 2024. While Yamal, Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha lead the list in terms of goal contributions in La Liga (8,8,7), it is surprising to see that no other player has more than 5. Things are looking good for Barcelona and with 18 points from 6 games, they are the only team with a 100% record in the League.
