Andres Iniesta recently announced his retirement from professional football in an emotional video. The former Barcelona midfielder and club legend is an inspiration for many as his style of play and elegance on the pitch have made him a model for players around the globe. As the new generation takes over, Lamine Yamal is at the heart of the discussion.
The 17-year-old was recently quizzed about Iniesta, to which his reply was received happily by fans on social media. Yamal stated that he doesn’t remember the 2010 World Cup (for obvious reasons – he was 3 years old) but does remember Andres Iniesta‘s time together with Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr. at Barcelona.
The teenager has been Barcelona‘s best man so far this season, and has now joined the Spanish camp for the international break. He has scored 5 goals and claimed as many assists in 11 games from all competitions.
Following Iniesta’s retirement, messages have been pouring in from all sides for the player, including those of Luka Modric and Real Madrid.
Lamine Yamal set to sign massive Adidas deal
Even though Lionel Messi is still the flagship player for Adidas, many believe that the crown will soon rest on Lamine Yamal‘s head following the former’s retirement. After signing with the brand in January, the teenager sported their ‘X Crazyfast’ line of boots during the Euros and in domestic competitions that followed.
As per reports, the youngster will soon sign a deal with the brand which will see him get his own signature line of boots with his logo. Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham already has his own signature logo and line of boots by Adidas.
Spain take on Denmark and Serbia during the international break, and with Luis de la Fuente adamant on his players not ‘needing’ rest, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Yamal starts both games. As things stand, Barcelona and Lamine Yamal are top of the table in La Liga with 24 points. Rivals Real Madrid are close behind on 21, with the two sides facing off later this month. Jude Bellingham has been called up by Lee Carsley to the England squad as they take on Greece and Finland in the Nations League.
