Lamine Yamal is arguably the most valuable player for both FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team. The 17-year-old played a crucial part in La Roja’s triumph at the Euros and will continue to do so under Hansi Flick at Barca. As things stand, Yamal is with the national team for the international break, although a lot of criticism was aimed at the Spanish head coach for not resting the teenager.

Spain took on Serbia on the 6th of September, playing out a goal less draw in Red Star Stadium. Even though Yamal had his moments in the game, no Spanish player prevailed in finding the opposition’s net. Nico Williams, Fabian Ruiz and Dani Olmo were all taken off, although Yamal was made to play the whole 90 minutes. Several fans criticized the manager for his decision, although Luis de la Fuente has responded to the same.

It's lucky a player of such a level plays so many games for the national team. If you can't play 180 minutes in September, turn it off and go. We play to win.

Criticism against the same has become so popular that a few fans have asked Barca to ‘not’ send its players to such irrelevant games anymore.

After his amazing season at both club and international level, fans have come to the realization that the teenager has transcended the boundaries of football. Even though it is yet to be revealed as to what role the player will perform in his new role, the revelation is a big step nonetheless. In another interaction with the press during the international break, Yamal outlined what helped him to be the player he is today.

I always went everywhere with my ball. I always played with my dogs and playing against a dog is the hardest thing you can do.
Lamine Yamal told L’Equipe

Spain play Switzerland on Sunday night before club football resumes with the difficult journey to Montilivi to face Girona. Barca have found it difficult to pick up results against them, suffering 4-2 defeats in their last two meetings.
