WWE great Randy Orton competed in his first match since November on SmackDown this week. Just before he was about to take on Carmelo Hayes, the cameras panned over to ringside, where FC Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal was nestled. The Spanish football prodigy came unglued when Orton put Hayes away with an RKO.

Yamal was all smiles when The Viper hit his signature move on a tricky prospect in Carmelo. After the match was over, Randy, in rare scenes, offered a handshake to his opponent. However, Melo acted like a sore loser and turned Orton down disrespectfully. It was enough to tick him off. Melo fell victim to a second RKO, but the crowd in Barcelona craved more.

The Apex Predator then lined Melo up for a punt kick, which is otherwise outlawed in WWE. Anyway, Randy’s intentions never came to fruition as a returning Kevin Owens pulled Carmelo out of harm’s way. The Viper made a beeline for Owens as the latter was rattled with a series of haymakers. Kevin escaped by the skin of his teeth, with Orton seething at his inability to hold the Canuck hostage.

Both individuals used to get along well. However, their relationship has degraded by a mile over the past few months. Owens’ brutal package piledriver ambush on Orton sent the latter packing for a long time. The Legend Killer made his thunderous return at Elimination Chamber. He went right after Owens, who was about to plant Sami Zayn‘s head first on ringside concrete.

Randy Orton braces for an unhinged Kevin Owens en route to WrestleMania

In Randy Orton‘s WWE absence, Kevin Owens tried cajoling his former best friend Sami Zayn to favor him in his then-ongoing feud with Cody Rhodes. Owens asked Zayn to have his back against The American Nightmare in their Undisputed WWE title match at Royal Rumble.

Even though Sami had the opportunity to help Kevin, he simply didn’t. Its ramifications saw The Prizefighter go berserk over Zayn. Their differences culminated in an unsanctioned match at Elimination Chamber that Owens won. Michael Cole announced on Raw that the former Honorary Uce will be out of action indefinitely.

In the meantime, things have circled back to Kevin and Randy. They were the ones who fell apart in the summer of 2024. By the looks of it, the rivalry isn’t going to fizzle down anytime before WrestleMania 41. A dispute that turbulent is bound to culminate at The Grandest Stage of Them All.

Last year, Owens and Orton were mingled in a rivalry with Logan Paul and for the United States Championship. They had a three-way title match at WrestleMania XL that resulted in The Maverick retaining the only title Paul’s won in WWE to date.

Triple H greeted Lamine Yamal before SmackDown

This week was the first time an episode of SmackDown had emanated from the country of Spain. And, of course, their local boy Lamine Yamal was certainly a shot in the arm for his fellow compatriots.

The 17-year-old met WWE CCO Triple H before the show went on-air. In a massive stamp of approval, The Game asserted that the future of FC Barcelona is brighter than ever. Yamal also got to share a moment with Cody Rhodes prior to SmackDown. The American Nightmare let the Spaniard pose with his Undisputed WWE title belt.

Lamine bore witness to some awe-inspiring moments. Spain’s own Axiom pushed World Heavyweight Champion Gunther to the limits. In the main event, The Street Profits dethroned DIY to become the new WWE tag team champions.
