Lamine Yamal responds to receiving racial abuse at the Santiago Bernabeu
Lamine Yamal addressed racial abuse faced during Barcelona's clash with Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, calling for stronger actions.

Barcelona youngster, Lamine Yamal, talked about the racial abuse that he received at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid during Barcelona’s 4-0 win over Real Madrid in the first Clasico of the LaLiga 2024/25 season.
The Barcelona youngster said that he is only focused on doing his work on the pitch and does not pay heed to the nonsense chants of the fans in the stadium. It was really a mature response from a player of his age.

Yamal scored a goal during the El Clasico and celebrated in front of the Madrid fans and also showed his shirt name and number. Now, he has really neglected the hateful comments and chants that he received from the away fans in the Bernabeu in probably the most heated contest in the game of football.

Real Madrid took steps after videos of Madrid fans racially abusing Yamal went viral on social media. Madrid said in a statement on official handles that they will investigate the incident and issue strict punishment to those involved. Even, LaLiga issued an official statement condemning the behaviour.

Yamal also talked about how he was supported by the Barcelona players on the pitch during that incident and he could carry on with his work. He feels that if the fans of arch-rivals are having a go at you, that means he is doing something great for his team.
Meanwhile, Yamal won the Raymond Kopa award for the best young player of the last season in 2023/24. He became the youngest ever player to bag the prestigious award at the age of just 17. The La Masia prodigy also became the youngest ever player to be nominated for the Ballon d’Or and finished within the top 30 nominees for the event.
