Of all the awards conferred at the 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony, Lamine Yamal winning the Kopa Trophy was never in doubt. The Spaniard was the clear favorite to win the award after putting up unbelievable numbers for both club and country last season. From winning the Euros at 17 to being named the Young Player of the Tournament, Yamal’s brilliance captivated fans around the world.

The Barcelona star also played an important role under Xavi Hernandez last season. Yamal beat the likes of Arda Guler, Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, and teammate Pau Cubarsi to clinch the award. The youngster also made history as the first player under 18 to win the trophy. The Kopa Trophy is awarded to the best player under the age of 21 throughout the specified time period.

Lamine Yamal is currently in red-hot form at the moment as he has Barcelona cruising in both La Liga and the Champions League. Yamal finished first in the rankings, followed by Arda Guler, Mainoo, and Savinho. 17-year-old Pau Cubarsi came in fifth.

Yamal follows in the footsteps of teammates Gavi and Pedri, who’ve won the same award in recent years. Barcelona players have been awarded the Kopa Trophy in three of the last four years.

The footballing community stood back in awe as Manchester City star Rodri was named as the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner. The defensive midfielder thanked his teammates, spoke highly of the award, and cherished the moment in all of its glory. However, what caught the attention of fans the most was the fact that he named Lamine Yamal as a future Ballon d’Or winner!

Yamal accepted the Kopa Trophy with a wave of applause as he thanked his teammates, family and coaches. The player also represented Barcelona and his hometown as he said ‘Visca el Barca y La capital 304‘.

The player has had a brilliant last few days, as he played a part in Barcelona’s 4-1 and 4-0 victories over Bayern Munich and Real Madrid respectively. The teenager also scored against Real and hit Cristiano Ronaldo‘s iconic calma celebration in front of a packed Santiago Bernabeu. Things are looking bright for the teenager as he continues to shine for both club and country.
