As the Lanka Premier League (LPL) gears up for its inauguration on November 21, it has now got its Bollywood connection. Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s brother Sohail Khan owned Sohail Khan International LLP, bought the LPL franchise Kandy Tuskers. Their father and famous scriptwriter Salim Khan is also part of the consortium. The brothers confirmed the news yesterday.

The player draft of the tournament took place on October 19 where more than 20 international players bagged their contracts. Sohail Khan feels that the five-team league has a lot of potential while confirming that his brother Salman will be present for all the games of his franchise.

“Given the players we have in our team, the league in general, and the passion of the fans, which are second to none, we see a lot of potential,” Sohail told Times of India.

The franchise boasts of some big international stars in “Universe Boss” Chris Gayle, Wahab Riaz and Liam Plunkett. On the local side, they have the services of Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis and Asela Gunaratne.

Although the availability of the foreign players is not clear yet, Sohail is excited about the side on paper. He branded the franchise as “a good balance of youth and experience.”

“Gayle is obviously the Boss Man, but we have a very good team. Kusal Perera is our local icon and we also have Liam Plunkett, Wahab Riaz, Kusal Mendis and Nuwan Pradeep among others. It is a good balance of youth and experience,” he further said.

Reports suggest that two other Indian companies and a Sri Lankan based consortium own three other teams in the LPL. While the Galle franchise is owned by the company that runs the Quetta Gladiators in PSL. But nothing is very clear about these claims as of yet.
