Leading up to the New York Jets mandatory mini-camp in June, the organization was relatively controversy-free until Aaron Rodgers suddenly disappeared. The Jets later revealed that the veteran quarterback was in Egypt.
It was a pre-planned trip that Rodgers formulated when he was recovering from a torn Achilles. The only reason he chose Egypt was because the 40-year-old admired the history and the philosophy of the country.
He decided to book the retreat in the second month of June, which coincided with the Jets minicamp. Despite recovering from a bad injury, Rodgers attended all of the phases of Jets OTAs, including the ones before the NFL Draft.
However, the Super Bowl winner left for the African nation right before the two-day mini-camp, creating a stir among fans and the media. Analysts who have viewed his activities negatively since the Packers’ days called the disappearance irresponsible and downright narcissistic.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh did reveal that he was in contact with Rodgers the whole time and the leave was unexcused. SNY’s Connor Hughes heard from inside sources at the Jets facility that Rodgers’ absence will not have too much impact on the players.
Hughes put forward a valid point. The mini-camp may be mandatory, but teams usually go through the same drills and exercises they practiced during the OTAs and will do in the training camp.
Mandatory minicamp, while mandatory, is simply two practices structured identically to the OTAs Rodgers did attend. Rodgers will be back for the start of training camp.Connor Hughes wrote
In the meantime, Rodgers showed up in LA, attending UFC 303 over the weekend.

Aaron Rodgers faced a penalty for missing the Jets’ minicamp
Even though Hughes doesn’t believe Rodgers’ absence would leave a long-lasting impact on the team, there are always a few rules and regulations that the franchise must enforce to show precedence. A four-time NFL MVP is no exception.
In June, NFL reporter Andrew Siciliano revealed that the Jets fined Aaron Rodgers a total of $101,716 for missing the minicamp. However, there’s no further information on whether he paid the fine.
Aaron Rodgers is subject to fines of $16,953, $33,908, and $50,855 for missing all three days of mandatory minicamp.

Regardless, Rodgers will be a major feature for the Jets in the 2024 season. They start against last season’s Super Bowl finalists San Francisco 49ers in the Bay Area.
