Jannik Sinner, along with his two Grand Slam trophies, won six more titles, whereas Carlos Alcaraz bagged only four. Despite Sinner’s success, former tennis player Laura Robson thinks the Spaniard was the best player because of his ‘special’ achievement.

Robson was talking about the Channel Slam that Alcaraz accomplished in 2024. He defeated Alexander Zverev in five sets in the French Open final to bag his first title on the Parisian clay. At the Wimbledon final then, Alcaraz outclassed Novak Djokovic in straight sets.

The 21-year-old was then on the verge of clinching his maiden gold medal on his debut at the Olympic Games in Paris but couldn’t overcome Djokovic in the final.

You’re changing surfaces. It’s such a short amount of time between tournaments. And then straight after that, he got to the Olympics and was very nearly coming home with a gold medal as well. So just the three months basically that he put together was something special, and something that very few tennis players have been able to do.

Laura Robson said on Sky Sports

Before Alcaraz, only five men completed the Channel Slam in tennis since the Open Era. Alcaraz has now his eyes set on the 2025 Australian Open where he has never progressed to the semifinals. If he wins the title in Melbourne, he will become the youngest man to complete the Career Grand Slam in the history of tennis.

John McEnroe makes a remark about Carlos Alcaraz’s height

John McEnroe doesn’t have any doubt about Carlos Alcaraz being a talented player but what he’s worried about is the youngster’s height. The seven-time major singles champion thinks Alcaraz might get frustrated while playing those players who are taller than him because of their serves.

Do they have the explosive speed of Carlos Alcaraz? No, because no one does. This guy’s the greatest talent that I’ve seen in the last 20 years. It is the most pleasure to watch Alcaraz maybe than I’ve ever seen, certainly at this age. I worry only because he’s 6 feet and a half inch tall and that these other guys are going to drive him absolutely nuts.

John McEnroe said on Served with Andy Roddick podcast

The American however is hoping that he is wrong about Alcaraz and predicted that the Murcia-born could win 10 Grand Slam titles. Alcaraz so far has clinched four Majors.
