Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray agreed to continue their partnership for a while after a good outing at the Australian Open. Murray, who was seen in Djokovic’s box for every match in Melbourne, often celebrated each point and was a source of encouragement from outside the court.
Djokovic and Murray’s partnership began at the Australian Open, where the former reached the semifinals before retiring against Alexander Zverev due to injury. During the tournament, the Serbian legend spoke highly of Murray’s influence on his game. In Qatar, he announced that their partnership would continue until the clay season.
However, Djokovic was without his coach at the Qatar Open and the British legend was not there to guide him. The 37-year-old exited in the first round of the ATP 500 event after losing in straight sets to Matteo Berrettini. It was the first time he lost a first round match since Monte Carlo Masters 2022 against Alejandro Davidovich.
During a discussion on Eurosport, former British No.1 Laura Robson was asked about what she thought about Murray and Djokovic’s partnership.
The positive is that he’s back and wanting to continue because I know from seeing Andy on the courts in Australia that he was really excited at the prospect of hanging around and being together again and was just sinking his teeth into it, and getting invested in the tactics. You could see from the side of the court how much he wanted Novak to win. So to carry it on, I think it is really cool for tennis to have that storyline ongoing.

Djokovic is expected to be on the court again at the Indian Wells Masters, which begins on March 5. Nonetheless, it remains to be seen whether he will play in another tournament prior, as he’s on the Dubai Championship entry list.
Laura Robson says there were positive signs from Novak Djokovic first round loss in Qatar
Novak Djokovic was among the favorites to win the Qatar Open having played some great tennis in Melbourne. He arrived at the tournament after just returning from a muscular tear that he suffered at the Australian Open. Back on the court, he was beaten by Italy’s Matteo Berrettini, who earned his first Top 10 win since January 2023.

During the aforementioned discussion, Laura Robson pointed out that Djokovic’s loss against Berrettini will not bring the Serbian’s confidence down. She argued that he bounced back well despite the injury he sustained in Melbourne.
The way that he finished in Australia. I’m sure it would have been tough for him to reset because he was playing some of his best tennis against Alcaraz, and then a couple of days later, it doesn’t go his way. So just at his age, to be able to rebound as quickly as he has, I think is a huge positive sign. I don’t know that he is overly bothered about losing early in Doha when you consider all the tournaments that he’s won and all his accolades in his career.

Djokovic has yet to win an ATP title since last year. The Serbian is also searching for his 100th tour-level career since he won the Olympic gold medal in Paris. He will be hoping to claim one title this season.
