Mirra Andreeva is in the form of her life after becoming the youngest woman to win a WTA 1000 title. The 17-year-old teenage sensation has been knocking at the door of success for the past two seasons, but finally made her way through by winning the Dubai Tennis Championships. She has now been predicted by former WTA player Laura Robson to win a Grand Slam this year.
Andreeva first made her mark on the women’s circuit after reaching the semifinals of the French Open last year. The Russian teenager put in an outstanding performance to beat Aryna Sabalenka in the quarterfinals at the event. This year, she took her game to a different level. The World No.9 defeated three Grand Slam champions at the Dubai Tennis Championships.
She first beat Markéta Vondroušová in the second round before going ahead to stun Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, she displayed a near-flawless performance to beat Elena Rybakina and then crowned it all by beating Clara Tauson in the final to win the WTA 1000 title in Dubai.
The tennis sensation has since been lauded to become the future World No.1 of the WTA. Additionally, Laura Robson believes Andreeva has what it takes to become a dominant champion in women’s tennis. She strongly feels that the 17-year-old will win the French Open title this year.
Andreeva is still only 17, but I feel like we have known her for a long time already. We’re just waiting for that super special Grand Slam result from her, and it feels like this is the year for it. I think clay is an incredible surface for her, it allows her to show off her movement and what a great athlete she is. Let’s see what happens in Paris!

Andreeva already has one clay title, which came at the Iasi Open last year. She has won 60 of her 74 matches on clay, which gives her an impressive 81% win on the surface.
Laura Robson praised Joao Fonseca for playing a big brand of tennis
Apart from Mirra Andreeva, another tennis sensation, Joao Fonseca, has been making headlines since the start of the year. The Brazilian teenager stunned the tennis world in January by defeating ATP World No.9 Andrey Rublev in the first round.
It was the 18-year-old’s first Top 10 career win. He continued with the momentum and claimed the Argentina Open, his first ATP title.

Laura Robson praised Fonseca in her column for playing a big brand of tennis. She added that following his performance in Melbourne and Argentina Open victory, he can build on it to win more titles.
Fonseca, meanwhile, got everyone excited in Australia, because he plays such a big brand of tennis for an 18-year-old – his forehand is absolutely huge – and the shot-making is what gets people fired up. It was just an amazing week for him to get his first ATP title in Argentina this month, and hopefully he can build on that momentum going forward.

Fonseca will be on the court again at the Indian Wells Open, where he will be making his debut with a wildcard entry. Already World No.68 in the ATP rankings, he is expected to climb the ranks as the season progresses.
