“Focused on Formula 1 only”: Laurent Rossi puts a stop at Fernando Alonso’s plans

Fernando Alonso returning to the Formula 1 with Alpine has already created a lot of buzz. Having being paired alongside Esteban Ocon, Alonso could use his experience to determine the new era at Alpine F1. Both drivers have had experience driving in events such as the Le Mans and Monte Carlo Rally.
The team’s new CEO Laurent Rossi has said that their drivers’ attention will be primarily invested in the brand’s F1 venture. Hoping for a better finish at #5 as compared to last season, Rossi stays adamant on the entire team being focused on the team goal as of now.

Rossi stated, “At the moment they are focused on Formula 1 and only on Formula 1. That is a lot of work.” (translated via Google Translate)
“We’re not ruling out the possibility that some of them might pull out under certain circumstances at some point, but at the moment we’re not mixing the two series.
“We cannot afford to create something like a distraction for the drivers. If it turns out to be feasible, we could consider it, but that’s not the plan today.”
Having made his rally debut last winter, Ocon has expressed an interest to drive in the famed Le Mans competition as well. But as parent brand Renault undergoes an F1 overhaul, the young Frenchman will play a crucial role in guiding Alpine’s standing in the sport.
Ocon added his thoughts and said, “Our target is definitely Formula 1, and 200 percent of that. That’s what we fought for.
“But yes, if the opportunity comes one day, and then we discuss it the plan with Alpine, then maybe, but it’s not what we’re focusing on now.”
