Inter Milan skipper Lautaro Martinez‘s inclusion among the foremost contenders to win the 2024 Ballon d’Or has excited fans on social media. The 26-year-old became a favorite after his recent Copa America 2024 victory.

French media outlet L’Equipe named the Argentinean star among the four favorites to be awarded the title along with Rodri, Jude Bellingham, and Vinicius Junior. Lautaro Martinez had an exceptional season for both club and country, scoring 35 goals across all competitions. He won three trophies – the Serie A, the Supercoppa Italiana, and the Copa America, playing a crucial role in each. He also scored the winning goal against Colombia in the final.

While the spotlight is on other Premier League and La Liga stars for the Ballon d’Or, Martinez’s balance of club and international success makes him a strong contender. He had a brilliant club campaign, winning the Serie A Valuable Player of the Season award with 24 goals and six assists in 33 matches. Additionally, he secured the Copa America Golden Boot with five goals, four of which came off the bench.

The race for the 2024 Ballon d’Or has intensified, with England duo Harry Kane and Phil Foden slipping in the rankings. If Lautaro wins the award, he will become only the second Argentine to do so after Lionel Messi.
