In Short
  • LaVar Ball plans to train his newborn grandchild, La’One, for the NBA starting at age three.
  • LaMelo Ball has a son with model Ana Montana, though there are no official reports of the child's birth.
  • LaMelo is currently performing well with the Charlotte Hornets, averaging 19.5 points per game this season.

LaVar Ball will always be credited and respected for bringing up his three sons, who went on to make a name for themselves. Lonzo Ball and LaMelo Ball eventually became stars in the NBA and signed multi-million-dollar deals. Co-founder of the Big Baller Brand, LaVar has often grabbed headlines for his wild takes and comparisons, and never shies away from speaking his mind.

The 58-year-old made an appearance on “Ball in the Family Podcast with Lonzo & Gelo Ball” and revealed plans to start training his newborn grandchild in the next three to four years.

Gelo already got my number one pick: La’One. If I raised you three killas in the backyard, what do you think I’m finna do with a gym in the backyard? They’re gonna start at four, but here’s the thing: I’ll put the hoops down in the gym, they’ll go sideways, and I’ll invite teams over there to play my team of four four and five year olds.

LaVar Ball and LaMelo Ball share a strong father-son relationship with each other. However, LaVar’s latest comments would be a surprise to many.

LaMelo has been in a relationship with Instagram model Ana Montana for a few years now. While their relationship has been public, there have been no reports of the couple expecting a child together.

LaMelo, who is the youngest of the three sons, was not present in the podcast. The 24-year-old had a huge scare last month when his custom-made Hummer was in a collision with an oncoming vehicle in Charlotte, North Carolina. He made it out unscathed but was lucky to avoid any serious consequences.

There is no proof that LaMelo and his girlfriend are expecting a child anytime soon. It is difficult to figure out if LaVar was being serious or just messing around.

However, his latest comments on training his future grandchild were quick to go viral, and fans reacted to it across social media.

Most fans seemed excited to see another Ball member potentially being in the NBA in the future. LaMelo and Montana have been linked with each other for nearly five years now, but made their relationship public only in 2023.

LaMelo Ball and the Charlotte Hornets are on a good run

Both Lonzo and LaMelo were high draft picks, but LaMelo is the greatest success story for the family so far. Lonzo has struggled with injuries and was waived off by the Utah Jazz at the trade deadline this year.

Meanwhile, LaMelo is coming off an impressive 136-106 win over the Miami Heat, where LaMelo recorded 30 points, six rebounds and 13 assists. He may be having his lowest scoring season since his rookie year, but he can still be one of the best offensive guards in the Eastern Conference on his day.

In 59 appearances this season, he is averaging 19.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 7.2 assists. However, the Hornets are currently at 10th place in the Eastern Conference standings with a 35-34 record and have been one of the best teams in the league since the turn of the year.

With a spot in the play-in tournament all but assured, the Hornets are just 3.5 games behind the sixth seed, the Orlando Magic. The Hornets will be hoping to see more consistency from their star guard as they look to make it to the playoffs for the first time in ten years.
