Learner Tien is an American tennis professional who turned pro in 2023. The youngster hogged the limelight for the first time when he qualified for the main draw at the 2025 Australian Open and upset three-time Australian Open finalist Daniil Medvedev in the second round in a five-set thriller.
The 19-year-old, following his win over Corentin Moutet in the third round at the 2025 Australian Open, made history by becoming the youngest man to reach the fourth round of the tournament since 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal in 2005. He also became the second-youngest American man to reach the Round of 16 at Melbourne Park after Pete Sampras.
Born to Vietnamese parents in Irvine, California, Tien started playing tennis at a very early age and won his first tournament at the age of five at a Racquet Club in Irvine.
Tien made his Grand Slam singles debut at the 2022 US Open and Grand Slam doubles debut at the 2024 US Open. He never reached the second round at Flushing Meadows in three main draw appearances (in 2022, 2023, and 2024) in singles.

He achieved a lot of success in his junior career, reaching two Junior Grand Slam singles finals (2023 Australian Open and 2023 US Open) and winning the 2023 Australian Open doubles with compatriot Cooper Williams.
At the age of 16, Tien won the 2022 USTA Boys 18s National Championship and as a result, he was handed the wild card to make his Grand Slam debut at the US Open. This made him the youngest man to participate in the main draw of the US Open since Donald Young in the 2005 US Open.
Tien lifted his first Challenger title at the 2024 Cranbrook Tennis Classic after receiving the wild card. The win made him the youngest American champion in the Challenger tour since 2016.
His second Challenger title came in Las Vegas which helped him reach the No.151 rankings. After his third Challenger title, at the Fairfield Challenger, he become a World No.124. This victory helped him qualify for the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals which was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Tien came close to lifting the Next Gen ATP Finals, where he reached the final but was defeated by another tennis sensation from Brazil, Joao Fonseca, in four sets.
