When Cleveland Browns defensive superstar Myles Garrett wanted some advice on either staying or moving from the franchise, one of the first people he called was LeBron James. The Akron native, through his infamous ‘The Decision’, ended up angering a lot of his hometown folk when he left for the Miami Heat.
Then, after returning a few years later, he turned that hate into love when the King guided his Cleveland Cavaliers to their first-ever NBA championship. Maybe Garrett was trying to understand if leaving in the hope of winning a Super Bowl was better than staying and establishing a legacy with the team that drafted him.
Eventually, he stayed and signed a then-NFL record contract for a defensive player. Fast forward to earlier, the 30-year-old was standing pat with 22 sacks, .5 shy of the league’s single-season record.
In their previous game, the Pittsburgh Steelers seemingly gameplanned to stop him from getting the record, which the Cincinnati Bengals followed for most of this Week 18 battle.
Then, with just a little over five minutes to go, the Texas A&M product took advantage of single coverage to get both his arms around Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow to register his 23rd sack of the season.
CONGRATULATIONS MY GOOD BROTHER!!!!!!! Myles Garrett.

This was the Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar’s reaction when the record finally had a new name. Considering how the two have been close, it was not surprising that LeBron James was the first big name in the sporting world to give Garrett his flowers.
Cleveland Cavaliers fans cheer Myles Garrett’s NFL sack record
Considering how important this record would be, both for the city of Cleveland and its sports community, the Cavaliers kept track of Myles Garrett‘s progress during their game against the Detroit Pistons.

It so happened that the very play in which the Browns’ star set the record was just when the Cavaliers were battling their opponents. Fans inside Rocket Arena were probably aware as notifications were going off throughout the country.
Then, with around 2:39 left in the third-quarter, the home team called a timeout after an offensive foul. During this break, as soon as the arena broadcast Myles Garrett’s sack on the Jumbotron, the home fans started cheering loudly.

As the arena announcer called out the achievement, the home fans got louder, with a round of applause following cheers. Cameras also picked up Cavaliers fans sporting Garrett’s No. 95 Cleveland Browns jersey seated courtside.
Sports franchises giving a shoutout to a superstar in another sport from the same city is not uncommon. In this situation, it was more about a shared interest, as Myles Garrett also happens to be a minority owner of the Cavaliers.
Myles Garrett gets sack record wearing Michael Jordan’s brand
When Myles Garrett took to the field at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio, some noticed that he was wearing a different brand of cleats than his usual colors.
Throughout the season, the Texas native was wearing Adidas as he set about having stellar games that fast-forwarded his pace to garner that many sacks. But in this game, it turned out that he was wearing the “Legend Blue” Air Jordan 11s. However, there was no official communication during the game.
This could have meant that he was probably experimenting with different brands, just like another sneaker free agent, Stephen Curry, is currently doing.
However, once he registered his 23rd sack to set the record, Jordan Brand, the famous line of sneakers and apparel named after the great Michael Jordan, released a post on Instagram to commemorate the occasion, with this caption:
That’s one helluva way to join the family.

Considering how the brand is designed after the most famous No. 23 in the world, it was fitting that they announced his signing as a brand ambassador in this fashion.
