JJ Redick might be one of the most knowledgeable basketball minds in the NBA. But his players don’t need to be able to catch on to what he relays to them. Therefore, to go with the times, the Los Angeles Lakers are rumored to be creating an app through which their new head coach will be able to constantly communicate all the gameplans and ideas he has running through his mind.

The Athletic’s Jovan Buha revealed that this move could possibly transform how coaches will communicate with their players. While speaking on his podcast the reporter touched upon the same.

There's talks about them creating an app for players. I don't know if that would be a way to communicate. Or that would be a way to diagram plays, show plays, almost like a playbook on their phone.

Buha mentioned that he is yet to get clarity on what it would exactly turn out to be. Details will probably come out when they are close to releasing the said app. It seems JJ Redick is trying to solve one of the biggest problems faced by coaches in today’s game. Most players are not smart enough to understand how plays develop. Therefore, if an app shows how plays develop as they go through the motions, it could be beneficial to understand the concepts clearly.

However, this could also be a genius move, as it will negate the possibility of players shrugging off responsibilities. A system such as this could hold them accountable. Accountability goes a long way to bring success.

JJ Redick to hold players accountable

During one of their discussions in the podcast Mind the Game, JJ Redick and LeBron James agreed that many of today’s players are more interested in their money and what they are gaining from the game. But they do not work hard to ensure the team has success in the NBA title race. That is one of the main areas where Redick’s focus will be.

He is known as a person who will not back down from letting others know they were wrong. Now former ESPN colleague Stephen A. Smith would attest to that. Redick will probe and push the Lakers players to bring out their best. If they succeed, then the team will succeed. Then only can they buy into his vision of continuous success which he is aiming to bring to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The app is just a tool to ensure players are held accountable. But the actual benefits of accountability will come when his players respond to his coaching. Redick could imprint a tradition of success with the Los Angeles Lakers by winning NBA titles.
