The NBA returned after a break due to LA wildfires on Monday. The San Antonio Spurs, led by Victor Wembanyama, defeated the Los Angeles Lakers, ending their three-game losing streak and bringing the Lakers’ tally to 3. LeBron James and Anthony Davis got outplayed by Wemby and Co at the Crypto.com Arena.

This left former NFL player Shannon Sharpe fuming on the latest segment of the First Take Show. This was alongside renowned TV presenter, Stephen A Smith. Sharpe was having ‘none of it’ after witnessing the Lakers’ poor performance against the Spurs side. He ripped into them on the First Take show, stating that the Lakers cannot make any ‘excuses.’

Sharpe was left confused mainly because the Lakers gave up a whopping 73 points against the Spurs in the 2nd half of the game. They lost the game with a margin of 24 points, adding more turmoil to head coach, JJ Redick this season. Anthony Davis led the Lakers with 30 points and 13 rebounds, while LeBron James, who turned 40 two weeks ago, finished with 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 8 assists.

On the other hand, Spurs star, Wemby was dominant against the Lakers side. A remarkable stat line of 23 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks were registered by the talented French star. His teammate, Chris Paul, a veteran whose family had to leave because of the LA Wildfires, contributed 13 points and dished out 10 assists.

Victor Wembanyama pays respect to teammates against LeBron James’ Lakers

Following the game, Chris Paul and Victor Wembanyama gave signed jerseys to the children of Lakers head coach JJ Redick. Because they had lost their collections of sports memorabilia due to the wildfires in southern California. The Redick family was extremely grateful for the gesture, which carried on a pattern Victor Wembanyama saw during the game. Wemby also praised his teammates after the game.

Today was a very ethical game on our part. My teammates just respected the game and did a lot of things that don’t show up on the stat sheet. Everyone had their opportunity to shine and make the next teammate better. It was a very healthy game.

The Spurs are among the NBA’s top distributing and ball-moving teams. This was ever since Paul was added in the offseason. Although Wembanyama is a formidable defender and scorer, his passing ability is not given enough credit. His 7-4 height helps him have excellent court vision. Also, the Spurs are anticipated to keep returning to their cherished old style of play.
