The opening night of the 2024 season was all about celebration. On one hand were the Boston Celtics who opened the season by unveiling the championship banner. Whereas on the other hand, it was all about what the Los Angeles Lakers were about to do. Fans thronged Crypto.com Arena to catch a glimpse of history when LeBron James and son Bronny James played together.

Ahead of the game, rumors were rife about the possibility of that happening in their opening game. MLB father and son duo Ken Griffin Jr.‘s presence along with his father, invitations to prominent celebrities, etc. all gave an indication that it was about to happen.

Even NBA insiders received unofficial news that the duo could play together.

The first quarter saw LeBron James and his teammates take a commanding lead over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Then, with four minutes left in the second quarter, the buzzer sounded for a substitution. Bronny James was seen getting ready to check in as he started unzipping his jacket, with his father coming up behind him.

Crypto.com Arena went into a rapturous round of applause as the father and son duo checked in for the first time in NBA history. The cheers kept on as the two walked to their positions under guidance from the new head coach JJ Redick.

The fans inside the arena were still standing and the cheers still drowned out the stadium announcer as he introduced them. A truly momentous occasion especially for the James family as it also happened to be on the 10th birthday of their youngest member, Zhuri James.
