Caitlin Clark is finally back and running on the court for the Indiana Fever in the WNBA. After missing several games due to injury, the Fever struggled in the league. However, just as Clark made her return against the New York Liberty on Saturday, she gave the Liberty their first loss of the season. The Liberty were 9-0 ahead of this game, but are now 9-1. Now that’s the Caitlin Clark effect.
Something that even legendary NBA player LeBron James agrees with. James is pleased to see Clark back playing. On Saturday, that much was evident. James spent some time watching the Fever play the New York Liberty, where Clark returned following a five-game layoff because of a quad injury. King James was quick to laud the All-Star playmaker after Clark led the Fever and remarked that she was missed.

The Fever star did not just return from injury; she dominated the Liberty on her return. She completed the game with seven 3-pointers, 32 points, eight rebounds, and nine assists. Not only that, she also scored a stunning 9 points in 40 seconds during the 1st quarter of the game, immediately making her presence felt to the home crowd.

With this performance, the 2024 ROTY winner showcased her importance on her side. Without Clark, the Fever visibly struggled on the court, losing several games in the process. Even the WNBA viewership ratings dropped in her absence. Now, with Clark back in the lineup, there is renewed hope in the Fever fanbase going forward into the season. Also, with a star like James in support, the Fever star’s confidence will be sky high.
Moreover, LeBron James has previously expressed his admiration for Caitlin Clark. The four-time NBA MVP was one of the first to respond when the Fever star achieved a triple-double versus the Chicago Sky at the beginning of the season.
Fans got fooled into believing a ‘fake’ Caitlin Clark rumor
Caitlin Clark was evidently at her best against the Liberty. Her performance, especially coming after injury, left many stunned. Shortly after her memorable evening, a strange allegation spread on social media: Clark was tested for drugs just after the game.

“NBA Centel,” a popular parody account on X, asserted in a tweet that joked that Clark was previously drug tested 11 times this season. What began as a lighthearted jest soon became a widely held misconception. Some users overlooked the comedy and thought the post was true, even though “NBA Centel” is a parody account known for its phony, humorous content.

To clarify once again, this news spread by this particular account is completely fake. Despite the account having a wide following, the news posted by it is always false. In actuality, there is no proof that Clark had a drug test following the Liberty game.
Nothing indicates that Clark was targeted on this specific occasion, even though the WNBA does have a procedure in place for random drug testing throughout the season.
Caitlin Clark gives flowers to teammate Sophie Cunningham
As the Fever hosted the Liberty, Caitlin Clark was not the only returnee for the game. Her teammate, Sophie Cunningham, returned to play for her side. She featured for 25 minutes. It’s important to note that Cunningham’s last game for her side was on May 30th. That said, Clark had immense praise for her during the post-match press conference.
I’m just proud of everybody. I thought Syd was fantastic today. She made two huge threes for us in the second half. Soph was fantastic, people just made really big plays for us down the stretch.
Caitlin Clark said
In her comeback, her influence extended beyond the box office stats. The Fever were +31 when she was on the court, despite her final stats of 5 points and 4 rebounds. Clark’s praise towards her teammates also showcases the feeling of unity among the Fever roster. Going forward, it will be interesting to watch how the Fever performs in the league.
