Superstar Ja Morant returned from a 25-game suspension tonight. NBA fans, media, and fellow competitors waited optimistically for Morant’s return. But no one envisioned such a poetic ending to the long-awaited return. Such was the impact that the current face of the NBA, LeBron James, chimed in with some comments of his own.

The Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James tweeted on his official Twitter account before Morant’s first game back this season. James has a cordial relationship with most players in the league. This is what he tweeted:

Getting a welcome like this from the All-Time scoring leader of the NBA was sure to galvanize Morant in his first game back. Morant’s return was nothing but dramatic. Scoring 34 points and crucially hitting the game-winning shot to down the New Orleans Pelicans was nothing short of pure poetry. The tweet from James has been viewed more than 5 million times.

Ja Morant returned after his 25-game suspension with a game for the ages. Morant led the Memphis Grizzlies to a 115-113 victory over the visiting New Orleans Pelicans. He finished the game with two highlights. One was scoring the highest-ever points by any player returning after 25 games out. Second was hitting a buzzer-beating game-winner.

Ja Morant finished the game with 34 points, six rebounds, and eight assists against the Pelicans. Jaren Jackson Jr. helped with 24 points, six rebounds, and three blocks.

After the game, LeBron James tweeted to celebrate Ja Morant’s poetic return. James generally does not tweet about every other player. But Morant’s return was too dramatic for him not to tweet. Not even James envisioned such an impact on a return game. His tweet after the game garnered more than 2 million views.

LeBron James had something else cooking amongst Ja Morant’s followers. With several tweets celebrating Morant’s return most dramatically, James could not help but get a laugh from some of the fan tweets. Check out the tweets below:

LeBron put out a laughing emoji reacting to a fan tweet about taking the “game-winning shot.” The shot in the tweet referred to a gun shot rather than shooting the ball.
