LeBron James comments about his former team met with resistance

On the latest episode of New Heights show hosted by Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce, LeBron James made an appearance to revisit moments from his extensive career. From playing in a pick-up game versus Michael Jordan at age 16 to his former team’ Cleveland Cavaliers unprecedented run this season, the Ohio natives had a nice hour-long chit chat.

While reflecting on Cleveland Cavaliers‘ excellent stretch this season, King gave a sincere compliment to his former team, who are currently at the top of the Eastern Conference with a league-best 34-5 record. Saying that Cavs “look amazing right now”, James reminded the fans all over the world, that he was actually the one who ended Cleveland’s a 52-year championship drought.

The Cavs look amazing right now… I hope they keep it going, they got an opportunity to do something special. I’m glad I was able to put on first and set the trend and hopefully we keep it going.

LeBron James on the Cavaliers

Since James’ departure from Cleveland back in 2018, this is the first time that the Cavs are looking like a true contender for the championship. Winning 9 of their last 10 games, the Cavs began the season with a historic 15-0 start. With all the national pundits predicting a stellar regular season for the Cavs, there’s an expectation of making a deep playoff run for the team this year.

Nonetheless, LeBron James’ comments faced backlash from some die-hard Cleveland fans, who questioned: “Why does he always have to make it about himself?” Ignoring all the significant contributions James made to their city, these fans speculated whether the King was envious of seeing his former empire prosper in his absence.

The King’s comments about him being the first one to break Cleveland’s championship curse and setting a standard for the franchise going forward have come under fire. While it’s hard to dispute James’ remarks objectively, fans could care less about any of that.

LeBron James led the Cavaliers to a winning record of 57 games during their championship campaign. This brand-new Cleveland team, under the leadership of Donovan Mitchell, should surpass this with ease considering their current trajectory. Next, the Cleveland Cavaliers will fly out to Paycom Center to clash against another top-seed titan, Oklahoma City Thunder, on Thursday.
