LeBron James surpasses Wilt Chamberlain and CREATES HISTORY in Lakers’ epic win over Grizzlies in Game 5
King James with another record for himself
The Los Angeles Lakers ground out a 117-111 win after overtime in Game 5 of their first-round playoff series against the Memphis Grizzlies to lead 3-1 in the series. This game was so far the most heated in this series and went down the wire.
LeBron finished the game with 22 points and 20 rebounds and created history by becoming the oldest player to put 20+ points and 20+ rebounds in a playoff game. He surpassed Wilt Chamberlain, who achieved the same at the age of 36. James turned 38 in December but continues to play with a youthful exuberance, leading his team to victory with clutch buckets late in the fourth quarter and overtime.
James led the Lakers with 22 points, 20 assists, and seven assists. Anthony Davis had a quiet night on offense, finishing the game with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and two assists. Austin Reaves starred again for his team, scoring 23 points, the most by any Laker. D’Angelo Russell fouled out in the fourth quarter but not before converting three shots from beyond the arc when the Lakers trailed by seven.
Ja Morant finished the game with 19 points, whereas Desmond Bane was the leader, calling it a day after putting up 36 points. Despite both their efforts, The Lakers beat the Memphis Grizzlies in overtime, 117-111. This win was on LeBron James and his clutch performance leading the game into overtime. Not only that, James had dominated in the extra five minutes as well, taking control of the game all by himself.
LeBron James comes up clutch in Game 5
With under seven seconds to go in the fourth, LeBron went to work, as he scored a tough layup over two defenders to tie the game and push the game to overtime. Not only was he clutch in regulation but also in OT. James hit a tough shot over Dillon Brooks as he was fouled to put the game beyond the Grizzlies’ reach with under 30 seconds to closeout. James’ 20-20 night was the first by a Laker in the playoffs since Shaquille O’Neal in 2004.
At 3-1 up in a series, the team has a 95% chance of progressing to the Western Conference semis. But the Lakers still need to close the series and will be looking to do so in Game 5 in Memphis on Thursday.
