- LeBron James did not play in the Lakers' recent loss to the Spurs, marking their second consecutive defeat.
- The Lakers are struggling without their key players, currently sitting fifth in the Western Conference standings.
- LeBron shared marital advice on Instagram, emphasizing the importance of hard conversations and respect in relationships.
LeBron James did not take to the court for the Los Angeles Lakers on their second night of a back-to-back. The San Antonio Spurs recorded a convincing 136-108 blowout victory over the Lakers at the Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday night. The Lakers were short-handed as they were without the services of their offensive backcourt trio of James, Luka Doncic, and Austin Reaves.
In the midst of their long eight-game home stretch, the Lakers lost both games on consecutive nights and find themselves in fifth place in the Western Conference standings. Meanwhile, the Spurs extended their winning streak to five games. The win improved their record to 37-16 as they sit comfortably at second place in the standings.
It was always going to be a tall ask for the Lakers without their primary scorers. Doncic, who is the focal point of the team, continues to recover from his hamstring. LeBron James took to the court on the first night of the back-to-back against the Thunder and decided to sit this one out, while Reaves has just returned from a month-long absence due to injury.
While James is idolized by many for his on-court performances, his off-court behavior and marriage to Savannah James have made him an ideal role model for fans around the world. And what makes their relationship even more admirable is that they are high school sweethearts.
The couple is revered by many for having a close-knit family despite all the noise and fame. James has been vocal about his relationship with his wife Savannah James several times throughout his career, often crediting her for supporting him through the ups and downs and also in bringing up their three children.
Following their loss on Tuesday, James posted some marital advice from author Jillian Turecki on his Instagram story. The caption read:
Behind every happy relationship are a lot of hard conversations, inside jokes, takeout on the couch in sweatpants, kindness and respect.

Savannah is more than a Los Angeles Lakers WAG. The mom of three has her own thing going besides a podcast, businesses, and several charities. Being the wife of a superstar like James is never easy due to the constant media presence and public eye, but Savannah has done a good job in keeping the family intact.
Lakers’ flaws exposed once again
There is no doubt that the Lakers boast arguably the best offensive backcourt trio in the league, comprising Doncic, James, and Austin Reaves. Without their star trio, the Lakers struggled to find any offensive rhythm.

Their defense continues to let them down and has been their Achilles heel this season. They had no answer for Victor Wembanyama, who put on a show in Hollywood. The Frenchman’s stunning first-half performance shattered Tim Duncan’s record for the highest-scoring first half by a Spurs player in the play-by-play era with 37 points. He ended the night with 40 points and 12 rebounds in just 26 minutes.
With the Spurs up by 32 in the middle of the third quarter, Wembanyama sat out for the majority of the second half. It was his second 40-point game of the 2025-26 campaign. The Lakers have suffered back-to-back losses against young and athletic teams. Their poor defense is one of the main reasons why they are not viewed as championship contenders this season.
Kendrick Perkins on the Lakers this season
Despite their impressive record, it is clear that the Lakers have a few cracks in their roster. Hence, it was expected that the Lakers would be active at the trade deadline and bolster their squad with some athletic wing defenders.
Former NBA player and analyst Kendrick Perkins called out the Lakers for not acting like a serious contender on an episode of Get Up.
The Lakers haven’t built out a championship-caliber roster since 2020. And they told you everything they needed to tell us when they made a trade and went and got Luke Kennard, that their focus wasn’t there as far as winning a championship.
“Can you build a championship roster around Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves?”

Defense has been a major concern for the Lakers throughout the season. However, in the end, they just made one trade and acquired Luke Kennard. While Kennard does elevate the Lakers with his three-point shooting, like many players on the Lakers roster, he has little to no defensive reputation.
