On Wednesday, NBA superstar LeBron James once again turned the heads of the sporting world with a surprising move. During the recent Los Angeles Lakers game, the 40-year-old was spotted wearing a customized Stadium Series jersey of the Columbus Blue Jackets.

James is currently dealing with a groin injury which has put him out of action. During the Lakers’ game against the Denver Nuggets at the Crypto.com Arena, he was seen watching the match from the sidelines while donning a customized No.23 Blue Jackets jersey.

This was the jersey that the Blue Jackets sported during the Stadium Series game on March 1 this year. In the outdoor game, the Blue Jackets took on the Detroit Red Wings at the Ohio Stadium. The hosts Blue Jackets emerged as the winners in this game with a 5-3 scoreline.

James obviously has a huge connection with the state of Ohio. The 5-time NBA Champion grew up in the city of Akron and even represented the Cleveland Cavaliers for 11 seasons during 2 stints while guiding them to the championship in the 2015-16 season and breaking the “Cleveland Curse”.

The Blue Jackets would later acknowledge him donning their colors. They would take to their X account and dropped a five-word reaction to this.

James is a minority owner of the Pittsburgh Penguins through the Fenway Sports Group (FSG). So it is not like he has no idea about what is going on with hockey.

While reacting to this move from James, fans were left divided. While some called it as a cool move, some rejected this. One fan boldly claimed that “He 100 percent can’t name 1 player“. Check out that and some other reactions from X below.

This move from him though comes at a time when the Blue Jackets are in the race for the Stanley Cup playoffs. Meanwhile, the Penguins are currently 7th in the league with a 28-32-10 record. Their 4-game winning run was brought to a halt by the New York Islanders. Their next match will see them take on Blue Jackets.

Columbus Blue Jackets playoff push takes massive hit with 4th successive loss

As the 2024-25 regular season comes close to an end, this is the time where teams are hoping to find their form and get hot. For the Columbus Blue Jackets, the exact opposite has happened. Their 2-1 loss on March 17 against New Jersey Devils was their 4th successive loss which has seen their playoff push take a massive hit.

At the start of the month, the Blue Jackets were in a commanding position and seemed certain to take one of the two wild-card spots in the Eastern Conference.

Since losing 6-2 to the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Blue Jackets have won only once and lost the other 5 games. This saw their record go from 30-22-8 to 31-28-8 with 6 losses coming in the last seven games.

This massive skid has seen them fall out of the wild-card spots and are now 5th in that standings with 70 points. The Islanders and their city rivals, the New York Rangers are both on 72 points. The Montreal Canadiens currently occupy the 2nd place in the wild-card standings with 73 points.

The Blue Jackets will end their homestand on Thursday against the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Florida Panthers. They will need to end this run of fixtures at home with a win to keep themselves in the fight for the playoffs.
