LeBron James EXPOSES National media lie over Anthony Davis – Luka Doncic trade

LeBron James calls out false reports amidst Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis trade

Everyone across the NBA world is scrambling to find out the details of what led to the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers agreeing on a blockbuster trade. They decided to swap Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis, with additional compensation both ways. However, amidst the stream of news breaking over the internet, LeBron James quickly called out national media reports blaming him for causing the trade.

During a segment by CBS Sports covering the Doncic-Davis trade, NBA Insider Bill Reiter claimed that LeBron James had apparently grown frustrated with Anthony Davis sometime over the past year. This frustration happened especially during the Lakers’ major struggles last season. However, James was quick to dispute this claim, calling out the report by Reiter through a post on X.

James did not hold back in his criticism with his first public comments since the trade was announced. He called out Reiter’s claims of internal frustration between James and his close friend Anthony Davis. While the Lakers had struggled plenty in their last few seasons, the bond and chemistry between James and Davis didn’t have much problems. However, those plans may need a course correction now.

Most had envisioned the Lakers with a future that would see Davis taking over the reigns of the team from LeBron James once he retires. However, with Luka Doncic now headed to the City of Lights, James will have the opportunity to play with a player who has often been cited as a modern successor to the 20x All-NBA star.

LeBron James was Luka Doncic’s idol growing up

The relationship between LeBron James and Luka Doncic is certainly impressive. While Doncic may not possess the same physical attributes that have defined the career of James, both have had similar impact as heliocentric offensive engines for the teams that they have played with. It only makes sense, then, that Doncic modelled much of his game after James, calling him his ‘idol.’

Given the relationship that the two share, it is easy to see how the two will fit together as personalities. At just 25 years old, Doncic still has much to learn. Having a mentor like LeBron James, who has been through a similar career progression to Doncic, is a blessing like no other for the young star.

James, on the other hand, has long wished to reduce his on-ball duties with the Lakers roster. At 40 years old, the pressure of handling heavy offensive loads is far too much of an ask from James, who has willingly obliged so far. The addition of Doncic will now allow James to move into a much more prominent role as the on-court coach of the team, with a significantly reduced offensive load.
