LeBron James’ former teammate TROLLS JJ Redick for getting Lakers head coaching job
JJ Redick has joined the Los Angeles Lakers with zero coaching experience.

LeBron James' former teammate Jared Dudley trolls JJ Redick for getting Los Angeles Lakers head coaching job
The Los Angeles Lakers hiring JJ Redick was a long-drawn process. Taking nearly a month after the initial rumors came out, while also flirting with the idea of trying to get their hands on a double NCAA championship-leading coach. All that said, his sheer lack of coaching still has everyone talking. Even one of LeBron James‘ former teammates and an assistant coaching candidate, did not hold back.
The Dallas Mavericks sent assistant coach Jared Dudley to lead their younger players in the NBA Summer League games. The former NBA Champion with the Lakers, was asked by reporter Joey Mistretta about his experience coaching the Summer League and if he wants to become a head coach in the future.

I want to head coach, that's my dream and ambition is to do that. But at the same time, you can't have that. Some of us aren’t JJ Redick and get to go right away. I gotta be able to do 4-5 years as an assistant. We all have different times. My time will come later on.Jared Dudley said
He was suggesting that Redick got it easily. Instead of taking the usual assistant coach route. Jared Dudley knows that usually, an assistant coach gets a call for an interview after spending some time under the tutelage of the head coach. If the team has success, the chance of getting that call is higher. But it still takes time. Dudley knows he cannot fast-track it.
On the other hand, JJ Redick went straight from calling games and podcasting to becoming the head coach of the most storied franchise in the NBA. Mostly thanks to Dudley’s former teammate LeBron James.
JJ Redick to observe players at Summer League
The Summer League is a chance for players to prove their worth. Not just for high draft picks to get acclimatized to NBA-level play, but also for those on 2-way contracts to earn a full season deal. The Los Angeles Lakers have signed a number of players to their Summer League roster. But how they perform will determine their future in the league.
Even though JJ Redick was not present in the initial California Summer Classic games, he is likely to attend the NBA 2k25 Summer League to be held in Las Vegas. As there are a few players who will need to be signed to a longer contract. Other than Dalton Knecht and Bronny James, the team needs another player or two. Players who can help the team in the case of injuries and can contribute effectively.
Therefore, it is crucial that JJ Redick must be present. After all, it is his first year as a coach. He might as well scout players who can help make a difference.
