One of them is the Los Angeles Lakers legend, LeBron James‘ son Bronny James. The Lakers drafted James Jr. as the 55th overall pick during the 2024 NBA Draft. They also became a part of history by having the first-ever father-son duo in the NBA.

That said, James Jr. also participated in the NBA summer league for the Lakers. In addition, he endured a tough experience during the Summer League, not performing as he would have expected. Now, his father came out to show his son some much-needed support before the start of the 2024-25 NBA season, as well as his rookie season with the Lakers.

Bronny James doesn’t aspire for ‘superstar’ status like his father

All eyes will be on Bronny James for the 2024-25 NBA season with the Los Angeles Lakers. Notably, James Jr. was once questioned regarding who he looks up to in the NBA to model his game around. According to ESPN’s Jamal Collier, the USC product avoided the obvious comparison.

Instead, he equated his play and said he expects to have an impact on winning in the same manner that Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, and Davion Mitchell have. This is what was applauded by his ‘superstar’ father, LeBron James too. On the other hand, James once claimed that his son being drafted by the Lakers was a ‘dream come true’ moment for him.

James Jr. avoided comparing himself to NBA greats like his father for example. Instead, he aims to emulate some of the league’s grittier, defensive guards. A smart pick for a player whose attacking package has never been his strongest suit. That said, a lot of expectations will be there on the rookie’s shoulders going into the new season.
