After clinching the historic 5th Gold Medal for his nation, Team USA captain LeBron James brought out his mischievous version during the celebrations. Notably, James was ecstatic about winning gold, but he didn’t hold back from teasing fellow Olympic teammate and NBA star, Anthony Edwards at the team’s celebration.
The USA men’s basketball squad partied in Paris on Saturday night after winning the gold medal over France. The cocktails were pouring, and champagne was spraying. James, the Olympics MVP, also flung a few fun jabs as he trolled Edwards who was not able to spray the champagne bottle adequately, claiming “he’s not there yet.”
In the video making rounds on X, as Edwards popped the bottle of champagne, LeBron James said, “Come on Ant, we know you ain’t been there yet.” In addition, Stephen Curry was also seen popping Champagne in some style as he did it much better than Edwards which made James take a swipe at him.
It seemed as if James’ words appeared to highlight the fact that Edwards had not popped champagne because he had not yet won an NBA title. Edwards has yet to win an NBA title, but he is getting closer. He contributed to the Timberwolves’ success in the Western Conference in 2023 but fell short against the Dallas Mavericks. It will be interesting to watch how Edwards performs in the upcoming 2024-25 NBA season.
LeBron James gives the 2024 Olympic USA team its “official” nickname
LeBron James made some comments after winning the Gold medal match against Team France at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Interestingly, James was questioned after the game regarding what “nickname” he would possibly give the 2024 Team USA basketball side.
James’ response was hilarious and amusing at the same time. After the game, one reporter questioned James, “There’s the dream team, the redeem team; what’s this team?” James responded quickly saying, “The Avengers.” In addition, James also hinted that this may be his last-ever Olympics for Team USA after winning a historic 5th Gold medal for his nation.
On the other hand, counting exhibition play, the United States went undefeated, going 11-0. Led by 39-year-old James, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry, who combined for 60 points in the final two games, including 16 threes. Team USA’s journey to and through the Paris Olympics was captivating and will be remembered as one of the greatest runs in basketball history.
