LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers are on a good run at the moment. After back-to-back wins over the Memphis Grizzlies, the Lakers secured a 111-103 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans at the Smoothie King Center on Tuesday night. Along with Luka Doncic, James scored a game-high 30 points to go along with eight rebounds and eight assists.
It was the Lakers’ third win in a row after losing four of their previous five games. The win propelled the Lakers to third, overtaking the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference standings with a 23-11 record, while the Pelicans suffered their eighth consecutive loss and have dropped to 8-30 for the season.
LeBron James is playing in a record-breaking 23rd season in the NBA. A number no player has achieved in NBA history. James may not be the player he once was, especially on the defensive end, but his offensive numbers have been impressive. The four-time NBA Champion is currently averaging 21.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 6.7 assists but is averaging 25.6 points in his last 12 games.
With Austin Reaves ruled out for a month due to injury, James has had to increase his workload on the offensive end and has formed a formidable partnership with Doncic. James is no longer the focal point of the team because the Lakers management has built their roster around Doncic as they prepare for the post-James era.
During their three-match winning streak, James has averaged 29 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. He may have turned 41 last week, but the “King” has continued to defy Father Time and shut down his critics.

There will be nights when James will be struggling, and it is unfair to expect a 41-year-old to go lights out every night. But he has shown that he still has what it takes to perform at the highest level, and the Lakers will be hopeful that his rich form translates into postseason success despite their shortcomings.
Fans react to LeBron James’ numbers after turning 41
While it has been only three games, James’ numbers since turning 41 have been nothing but extraordinary. The internet could not keep calm after seeing his numbers and were in awe across social media. Here are some of the reactions:

Lakers front office need to decide what this year is going to be
Despite having arguably the best offensive backcourt trio in the league, the Lakers are still not viewed by many as championship contenders. They have struggled against the top teams in the west and teams that are young and athletic. The lack of defense put in by their three stars has been an Achilles heel for the Lakers this season.
There have been critics who have pointed the finger at James for the roster not being equipped to contend for the title due to his hefty contract. While James is a defensive liability at his current age but the likes of Doncic and Reaves have been poor defensively as well.
James’ longtime friend and agent Rich Paul said the Lakers front office needs to pick a direction for this season on his Game Over podcast with Max Kellerman.
When you have that level of talent, you still have a punters chance. Now as an organization, you have to decide what is this year going to be. That should be communicated to your star guys. Most people think ‘oh we’d be a lot better if LeBron wasn’t making $54M’. Well that’s not true.

Considering the offensive talent that the Lakers possess, they will always have a chance to win games by outscoring their opponents. But this strategy will backfire in a seven-game playoff series. With the trade deadline fast approaching, the Lakers may look to strengthen their defense and cover up their cracks as they look to contend for the 2026 NBA Championship.
